By the age of 10 months I was trying to find something different for my baby to have for breakfast, something different to poridge. Thats when I tried Cow&Gate Baby Balance fruity crunch cereal.

She took to this straight away (but I think it is important to remember that she was on solids at 4 months, which is not recommended by health visitors).

The Fruit Crunch comes in a box, same shape as normal cereals, but smaller. The box is blue with a picture of a baby on the front (like most Cow&Gate foods) and the name of the contents in large writing. You will be able to pick up a box in any supermarket that sells the Cow&Gate range of baby food. The box does advertise the fruit crunch well, it is attrative and make you think that your baby wouldlike the food. A 250 g box costs approx £1.30, but you can sometimes find it on offer e.g. for a £1, that's when I tend to stock up a little.

The cereal is easy to make (important for me as I don't have much time to fuss in the morning, like many mothers) e.g. mix one spoonful of cereal to 7 spoonfuls of milk. As you baby grows, or wants more food, keep doubling the amount. It does state on the box that you are able to change the consistency by adding more or less milk, so there is no need to panic that it will harm your baby if your measurements are not correct. By now I don't even measure the breakfast, I just add stop adding milk when I feel it is at the right consistency for her.I add cold milk when the weather is warm and hot milk in the winter. You need to ensure that the food isn't so hot that it will burn your baby's mouth.

It does have small pieces in it, but they were so small and got soggy in the milk that I wasn't really concerned about her choaking. It seemed a little more like 'proper' food than poridge.

It is recommended for babies 10 months and over, and according to the box, it's sound very good for your baby. It contains small pieces to encourage your child to start chewing food, It doesn't contain flavourings, colourings or preservatives an it doesn't have any added milk, lactose or egg.

The ingredients are: baby grade fruit (Banana, Apple and Orange), milled oats, cornflakes, calcium, milled rice, iron, vitamins and zinc (see pack for more information). It doesn't contain added sugar or salt.

The pack will keep for up to 28 once opened, and needs to be stored in a cool dry place. Great if you ar lokking for something a bit different for your baby, and not confident enough to use regular cereals.

      A good instant meal.

I have not fed my baby with instant food much as of yet. He is 11 months old but I recently started introducing this Cow & gate meal because it's so easy to prepare.

You can prepare it the way you like and it's available in a few different flavours. The fruity crunch is also yummy because my son has shown positive signs after loading himself up with this meal.

It's easy to prepare. Just warm a little water and shove in a few spoonfulls and make a nice balanced paste. It's easy to feed becasue the mix does not drip or drop here and there to create a mess. The box gets used up real quick and you must stock it up well if your babies get used to this food.

You can forget about feeding your child for a few hours if he/she has had a bowlful of these. I usually supplement this meal with milk (however that's not necessary) and while savouring the taste of cow & gate baby balance, my baby downs a few ounces of pure milk alos. What a fun way of feeding healthy and right !

Does its job untill lunch time

Ok this product is very popular, and it does not cost alot. But it also does not last very long as you need to use a few spoonfulls of it.My children loved the taste and carried on eating this even up to the age of 12 months. But obviously using alot of it.

I like the fact that you can make it what consistancy you like to suit your child, and there are so many different types and flavours to choose from.It kept my children happy untill lunch time,so it did a good job of keeping them full.I have always used the brand cow & gate for some reason, not sure why...but it has always kept my child happy.

I miss the days of feeding them these types of food, But,I think that this breakfast along with a few others was definately my childrens favourite breakie out of any other brands and flavours.Keeps them full for longer.
