Cow & Gate Baby Balance Pure Baby Rice
Advantages: Gentle on babies tums, extra vitamin B1, versatile, value for money.

My wee man had his first taste of this tonight! Don't they grow up so quick.
~ About ~
Cow and Gate Pure Balance Baby Rice is a first weaning food for babies from 4 months and up, though be aware that the recommended guideline (not rule, speak to your health visitor if you think your little one is ready to wean before that mark) is 6 months and up. On the packaging itself it states 4 months and up. Baby rice is a very gentle, easily digestible weaning food for baby tums, and this one has added vitamin B1, a bonus as Vitamin B1 is needed to aid baby growth. The rice and vitamin is the only ingredients this food involves, gluten free too to help avoid allergy problems.
It is sold in a pack of 100g, which will last you a good month or so depending on your babies appetite. An added bonus, if you use cow and gate baby formula, they often come with a leaflet for 20p off a purchase of this baby rice. Its selling price is around 50p a box.
To make up your baby rice, in the early weaning days its a good idea to give your baby as much milk as they will take first. Then out of whats left, mix 10 baby spoons of milk, formula or breast, with 1 baby spoon of baby rice. Give it a good mix. It will look just the same, still very watery, but as babies are prone to choking this is how it should be. As your baby gets older, you can vary the mixture for a thicker consistency. If you do make a thicker mix, try not to get too much saliva from your baby into the baby rice, as it will break it down and go back to being very watery.
Baby rice is very versatile and can be used mixed with fruit and veg purees, once your baby is old enough to give it a go.
~ Personal Opinion ~
Well, for a proper personal opinion, what else could i do but give it a taste! Must be just for babies though as there was no flavour to it other than that of the formula and it was quite 'bitty'. My baby however, loved every single mouthful and ate the whole 10 spoons baby milk mixed with one spoon baby rice, giggling away through out. That's enough for me to know it must be good!
I find it great value for money, I used it with my older two girls as well when they were little, and at 50p for 100g its not to be sniffed at! It doesn't stain either, like other baby foods, I have lost many clothes before from carrot puree stains! I never noticed any adverse reactions to it either, such as constipation or the runnier stuff (eww) where as with boots own baby rice brand, I have. Simply put, i trust this food, to put in my precious babies belly!
~ Should You Buy It? ~
If your baby is ready to give weaning a go, then I would recommend it, from personal usage, for its gentleness on a babies belly, the extra vitamin b1, and its value for money. Whether your baby will like it though...that's something you will find out when you give it a go. Although i used this with all my three, my eldest was never really a huge fan of it.
~ Where can I Buy it? ~
At most supermarkets, boots, and other stockists of baby foods. Dont forget, if you use cow and gate formula, keep the little leaflet for extra money off.
Cow and Gate have their own website, at cowandgate.co.uk where you can contact an advisor for more information should you want it. Also if your baby is before 6 months of age, do just run it by your health visitor before going ahead.
