Whilst shopping in Tesco I spotted Cow and Gate baby balance rice pudding and decided to buy a jar as a treat for my son.

I bought a 125g jar for 51p from Tesco. It is a small, glass jar with a metal screw on lid, as with all baby food jars it has a sunken bit on the top of the lid that shows you whether the jar has been opened or tampered with. If the middle of the top of the lid is raised then this means that the jar has been opened, so you should not purchase it. The label has the cow and Gate logo and a picture of a baby on it. The jar I purchased is suitable for babies from 4 months upwards, therefore is suitable from the start of weaning as it has no lumps in it. The dessert also contains no artificial flavourings, colours or preservatives, has no added egg, is gluten free and is suitable for vegetarians.

The dessert can be served hot or cold, if you prefer to heat it, they recommend that you stand the jar in hot water and heat it that way. You can heat it in a microwave but you must be very careful and ensure you stir it thoroughly to avoid hot spots. It states on the jar that any left over, unheated food can be left in the fridge for 48 hours, I found that this was very helpful as my son is only just building his appetite up and the jar does contain 2 servings of pudding for the amount that he is currently eating, so there was some left over for the next day.

I obviously had to try dome of this pudding, for the sake of the review!!! As previously mentioned the pudding does not contain any lumps at all, so is completely smooth and is a creamy colour. I am pleased to say that it tastes just like rice pudding, I must admit that I found the texture quite strange as I am used to having lumps of rice in my rice pudding!! It was a definite success with my son too!! In fact I think he would probably have sat there and eaten about 5 jars of this delicious pudding!!!
