Advantages: Handy to take out with you, no need to heat up.

Disadvantages: Not as good as home made!

When my son was 7 months old I decided that it was time for him to start having a pudding after his meals. I did start off with all the best intentions in the world and started to puree all his fruit and freeze it in batches, but with all the best will in the world when I returned to work I simply couldn't find them time to prepare all his food myself. I therefore took the easy way out and decided to buy him some fruit pots from our local Tesco.

After looking at a lot of the different puddings on offer in the baby food section I decided to try Cow & gate frutapura, they cost £1.66 for four pots. The reason I decided to try these was that it states on the front of the packet that they are made from 100% fruit with vitamin C.

The tubs are wrapped in a cardboard outer case with the Cow and Gate logo at the top of the packet. The flavour I am reviewing is fruit cocktail and it states the flavour at the bottom of the packet. There is a picture of fruit in the middle and two babies at the bottom. It also states on the front that they are suitable from 4-36 months and that they have won a mother & baby gold award for the best baby food/drink.

On the back it advises you that the fruit cocktail is made from apple, pear, apricot, banana, & orange with vitamin C. It also advises you that it is made from 100% fruit which is specially grown and carefully selected at dedicated baby fruit orchards. It also states that there are no preservatives, no artificial flavourings, no artificial colourings, only the natural sweetness of fruit, gluten free, egg & soya free and milk and lactose free.

The ingredients per pot are ¾ of a small apple, a slice of pear, ¼ of an apricot, 2 slices of banana, a teaspoon of concentrated apple & orange juice and vitamin C, so you can see that there aren't any hidden, nasty things that you find in some baby food products.

Serving suggestions are that the product can be served warm or at room temperature and the jar may be stored for upto 48 hours once opened. To be honest I keep these pots on the fridge and serve them to my son straight from there, so he seems to like them cold.

The pots themselves are just like yoghurt pots but are made from see through plastic, they have tear off lids just like the yoghurt pots and each fruit pot is 100g.

From the first time I gave my son these fruit pots to try he absolutely loved them, he simply couldn't get enough!! His little face lights up whenever he sees me open one for him and he still has his mouth open for more even when the pot has all gone! I think he would eat 2 pots in one sitting if I let him!!! I obviously had to have a taste myself, for review purposes and to be honest I find them to be a bit too sweet for my liking, they are very fruity and you can definitely taste the fruit, but im not keen on the sweetness, but my son loves them so who am I to argue?!

Summary: An easy fruity pudding!

All three of my children loved these. Even when I couldn't get my youngest to eat any fruit at all he'd eat these!
