Advantages: Can buy it readily diluted - easy for travel, but I wouldn't! Smells lovely!

Disadvantages: Caused baby extreme discomfort when even diluted by twice the recommended amount of water - too acidic?

When I started to wean my baby I tried to give her water but she wouldn't drink it so I thought I would give baby juice a try.

I looked at them all, for all the normal things - no added sugar, no artifical flavours etc. Cow and Gate undiluted juice (Apple and Pear) seemed to just fit the bill, especially as she was also quite content with her apple and pear purees.

So I diluted it in the correct manner (6 parts water to 1 part liquid I think) and gave it to my daughter. At first she pulled a terrible face but I carried on offering it to her and managed to get her to drink a little. All seemed ok but about an hour later she had the most dreadful wind she has ever had. Bedtime was about 5 hours later and she was still suffering - she was wriggling about all over the place, as though she was extremely uncomfortable. I think she just had terrible indigestion / heartburn.

Although this was the only 'out of the ordinary' food/drink she'd had that day I thought I would give it a try a few days later. This time I diluted it with twice the amount of water that was suggested. Exactly the same thing happened. So I would definately not recommend this juice - persist with the water if you can!

The juice was labelled 4 months plus and my baby was well over this and had been having 'solids' for about 3 weeks, so it wasn't as if it was the first 'foreign' foodstuff I'd introduced. Even tasting the extremely diluted version myself it did taste extremely acidic. Perhaps when she is older and her stomach more used to stronger tastes it might be better, but I will be loath to try it.
