Advantages: good as a quick snack, ideal for when ' out and about'

Disadvantages: a bit pricey

I got a couple of the new Cow & Gate 'snack bars' as a free sample in a Bounty pack, and they're part of the Cow & Gate finger foods range.

They come in 3 different flavours; Apple, Plum and the Multi-cereal and Milk bar.
The samples I got were of the 'milk' bar and the plum one.

so how good are they?
All of the bars are made up of 4 equal size break-off type 'portions' and are very easy for little hands to hold and munch on..or squish it into the carpet..or feed it to the dog..or hide under the sofa for later..ha ha!

The packaging states "For toddlers from 12 months old.."

"Multi-Cereal & Milk Bars are ideal for babies learning to hold and eat finger foods, which is an essential part of the developmental process of weaning"

My little boy isn't quite 1 yet but is good at eating things..he got lots of teeth.
But I agree with the recommendation, for example this wouldn't be a good first 'finger food' because it takes quite a bit of chewing.

Instructions for Use..well common sense really, don't leave them alone while they're eating.

Also says on packet
"In the interests of good hygiene, clean your baby's teeth regularly, especially before bedtime."

( Now if anyone can tell me how to brush a 10/11 month old monster's teeth then please let me know. Because I have tried, failed, and given up. We've postponed teeth-brushing untill he can understand whats going on and not to swallow toothpaste and or try and eat the toothbrush...ends up in a big stressful noisy mess and not worth it..especially not before bed anyhow. )

- "A milky munch!" -
This snack bar is made up of 7 different cereals and a yoghurt coating. One of these bars contains as much calcium as a quarter pint of milk, so although the yoghurt topping bit is quite sweet they do hav
e some goodness in them. Ingredients include glucose syrup and sugar- explains the sweetness. It was sweet and quite chewy but it kept my little monster busy for a bit.
I think Mr.Man prefered this one to the other as he was quite happy to keep hold of it and eat it.. and not give it to the Dizz-dog when she came for a hopeful sniff.
( Mr.Man= my little person..)

- The Fruit Bars -
These are equivalent to 1 piece of fruit. The Apple bar is made from one medium-size apple and the Plum bar is made from two small plums.
- Plum Bar -
Is made from Plum, "blended with coconut, apple and oats". Though I must say I didn't much like the taste of the Plum bar..tasted like vey bland fruitcake and couldn't taste the plum. Mr.Man tried it but lost interest pretty fast and the Dizz-dog finally got a taste. Made my bloke try it and he said it tasted like chewy fruitcake, it's definately not as sweet an' tasty as the milk bar.

The 'Fruit Bars' also contain 35% of a toddler's daily requirement of Vitamin C.

- Information For Special Diets -

Egg free
No added soya
Suitable for vegetarians
No artificial flavourings, colourings or preservatives.

( Fruit Bars are milk and lactose free)

In conclusion...
Fruit and vegetables are of course an important part of your small person's diet and these new 'snack bars' are an easy way of getting more fruit into your little one. However I think that it's much easier and better to give them real fruit even though it can be messier. Compared to the price of these 'snack-bars' fruit is definately the better option unless you want something easy for when you're out-and-about.
Prices at Tesco are £0.39 each (any flavour 25g bar) or £1.56/100g when you see the actual size of the bar 39p seems a bit pricey to me. I wouldn't recommend this product for every-day feeding but
good for the occasional quick snack because they are packed full of vitamins and good stuff.
