Advantages: Babies like it, doesn't contain any junk

Disadvantages: Sweet, pouch isn't that great

Purees are useful when you need a quick, mess-free meal for your baby.

Ella's kitchen purees were attractive to me because they really do just contain the fruit and vegetables, just as if I'd made it myself at home. So I know it's ok.

They have very strange combinations of flavours, and they are all quite sweet. I think that is why they put pear in with broccoli and peas - to make it sweet. This is ok if you're having trouble getting a small baby to eat I suppose. But if you're only giving these purees, I think the baby would get used to having very sweet food all the time, which might not be a good thing.

The pouches are not actually that convenient. They do squish around nicely in your bag - that part is better than having a jar in there. But when it comes to feeding time, you need to have a bowl to empty the pouch into. And you can't see how much you have left in the pouch either.

They are about twice as expensive as the equivalent amount of baby food in a jar.

Summary: Nice now and then
