Advantages: Healthy, organic, convenient, can be served hot or cold, no artificial rubbish.
Disadvantages: A little pricey if you have quite a hungry baby who eats one per meal.
Ella's Kitchen specialise in making organic baby food that contains 100% natural ingredients and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. What you see on the front of the packet is what is inside the packet, so on this occasion the puree is made up of carrot, apple & parsnip.
My niece Ruby-Lu is now 5 months old and has been eating solids since 16 weeks when she started on baby rice and worked her way up to this lump free puree at around 18 weeks. One 120g sachet is currently 84p from Tesco stores and this will provide two servings for the average baby although every child is different of course so you will want to see how much your child eats.
The puree comes in an orange colour sachet that is very squidgy and has a screw top cap. Simply open the cap and dispense the required amount of baby food in to a bowl & feed to baby. You can heat this through first by placing it in hot water and warming through as you would a babys bottle but be sure to test it before giving it to your baby. It can also be eaten cold so is a great packet to have in your nappy bag for any days when you are running late or are not able to heat it up.
The puree is an orange colour and does indeed taste like carrot, apple & parsnip as I sampled some before feeding it to my niece, mainly just out of curiousity really! It's not something that I would personally want to try again as I don't like carrots much but Ruby-Lu seemed to enjoy every mouthful and hardly even spat any out. When spilt on to clothing this did wash out much easier than some of the other baby foods that she has tried recently (cow & gate stained her clothes dreadfully) and this is another positive about the food.
Ruby-Lu enjoyed her meal and my sister did get two meals out of one sachet as she's not a greedy eater just has what she wants and then stops and never cries out for more (she's too well behaved most of the time!). I would definitely recommend this for your little ones as it's great to know that it's organic and doesn't contain any rubbish like some of the other baby foods currently on the market. I think that the price is very reasonable, particularly if you have a baby who is on stage 1 weaning and currently only eating one meal a day and still having many bottles. Ruby-Lu slept very well while she was adjusting to eating actual food and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it with not a single grizzle detected at mealtimes.
I am rating this product 4/5 and have knocked off one star because this would only be one meal for a very hungry baby and therefore it's a little pricey when compared to other meals available in jar/packet form.
Summary: A fantastic sachet of puree that's ideal for stage 1 weaning.

- 02/06/09 Sound good, these weren't about as much when Harry was a baby so I didn't get to try them out! |
