Heinz Baby Food
Advantages: great range
Heinz is a name we all know very well and I had eaten Heinz products for many years but it wasn't until I had my first child 7 years ago that I realised they also make baby foods,
Heinz to my knowledge do not make a formula milk for babies of there own so for the first 4 months of feeding all 3 of my children I used sma milks but once we started weaning at 4 months old we used a lot of Heinz baby foods.
There baby foods are made in different stages, the one we are using most with jess at the moment is the 4 to 6 month foods as she will be 6 months old tomorrow, these are blended to be a very smooth consistency rather like a puree with no bits in them at all, the 7 month plus foods have a mashed texture to them to help baby get used to a more solid consistency but they sill don't need to have learnt to chew to eat these meals, 10 month plus meals have bits in them that need to be chewed but are all very soft bits so can be managed very easily by a baby who doesn't yet have teeth and the 12 months plus meals have lots of solid pieces in them but I only ever used a few of these as I used to prepare my daughters a meal the same as ours and cut it up for them by this stage.
As I have said above jess is currently eating the 4 to 6 month foods so let me tell you in more detail about these,
Heinz sell a lovely range of foods that are dried and pre packed for you to prepare your self when you need them, they don't need to be cooked or anything you just add water to the powder to make up a meal, I like these and have used these with all 3 of my children when I very first started weaning as they are ideal for starting to wean with due to the fact you can add as little or as much fluid as you need to get a consistency your baby likes and can manage, I usually mix these with formula milk rather than water to get extra milk into jess.
This range includes
Creamy oat porridge
Fruit with yougrt
Oat and apple cereal
Sunrise banana cereal
Cauliflower and broccoli cheese
Mediterranean veg and rice
Pure baby rice
Heinz are one of the only companies I have seen to sell fruit juice especially designed for babies, this may be due to the fact a lot of companies claim that all baby needs drink wise for the first 12 months is formula milk but I disagree with this, Jessie only needs 20 fluid ounces a day of her formula milk but in warmer weather or when she has a cold she also loves a drink and these are ideal but be warned as they are tangy and make jess salivate loads.
They are available in
Orange and apple juice
Red grape and apple juice
Apple and black currant
Apple and cherry
As well as the above packaged foods which I use for breakfast Heinz do a wonderful range of baby meals in tins and jars as well, there is so much variety in there meals that it gives you a chance to let baby have a try of all types of food and develop there taste buds, there are that many in this range that I wont list them all here but I will tell you a few of Jessie's favourites
Cheesy veg with fish
Sausage pasta bake
Beans tomato and bacon
As you can see for your self they do a lovely range, some of these are available in tins but others are only available in jars, I use the tins more than the jars at the moment as they are smaller so there is less waste with the tins as jess will eat a whole one but the advantage to the jars is that you can store the food in the jar for 2 days in the fridge once opened with the tin you have to transfer it to a suitable tub.
For anyone with a weaning baby these are an ideal range of foods, my daughters have all eaten these and all loved them, obviously some flavours more than others and all 3 of mine have preferred the puddings to the dinners. It probably does work out more expensive to use these than to make your own foods but I prefer to use these as I know they are designed for a baby, don't have too much sugar or salt in them and have extra vitamins and iron in them.
