Advantages: Good range, cheapest brand

Disadvantages: 7 month foods too lumpy

My children had a mixture of home made and commercial foods, but for the first few months of weaning the commercial food was almost always Heinz. But we hit a problem at 7 months. Suddenly, our children were supposed to change from runny puree straight onto very lumpy foods containing whole grains of rice, pieces of spaghetti etc. The change from the 4 month to the 7 month was way too much to expect and we had to give up on Heinz at that stage.

What we did in the end was added things like peas to the 4 month foods to get them used to lumps, then moved over to 7 month foods gradually, sometimes mashing them up a bit more. The 7 month jars don't seem to have much sauce or liquid in them, which is another problem for my kids. Perhaps they just had enough of Heinz, but I've found that HIPP is a firm favourite with my younger one, and well worth the extra as it all ends up in her tummy, instead of in the bin!
