      Very helpful

      Quick and easy

When I first started weaning my son at 6 months I decided to borrow my friends Annabel Karmel book and have a full day of making some of the recipes in the book so that I could freeze them and start to introduce my son to new flavours.

I noticed that a lot of the recipes advised me to use chicken stock, which was fine but the recipe to make the chicken stock looked much more complicated than half of the recipes in the book!!! I admit I took the lazy way out and decided to buy chicken stock rather than make it from scratch!!

It was when I was looking for a chicken stock that was suitable for a small baby that I discovered the Heinz cook at home range of sauces for babies and toddlers do a chicken and a beef stock. A 200ml pack costs £1.06 from Tesco.

The packet itself is plastic and stands on its base, it has the Heinz Cook at home logo on the front and a picture of someone cooking with a pan of chicken stock, it also has various vegetables scattered around the pan. It states on the front that it is suitable for ages 4-6 months and upwards, therefore can be used from the start of weaning. The pack is very simple to open and has a tear off part at the top; therefore you don't need scissors to cut it open.

The ingredients are water, conrnflour, yeast extract, natural flavourings and chicken. It states on the back that it contains no added artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives; it has a carefully controlled level of salt that it suitable for your baby's tummy. Is suitable for a gluten free diet and contains no GM ingredients.

On the back the serving suggestions say that you can simply use this stock as an ingredient for cooking, as a base for soups or you can just use it to add flavour to things such as rice or pasta. It says on the back that once the packet has been opened it will keep for 48 hours in the refrigerator.

I tend to use a full packet of the chicken stock whenever I am making a recipe, as I then section off the food and freeze it to use at a later date. I found this ready made chicken stock so much easier to use than having to make my own from scratch and it makes my recipes taste very nice indeed, or at least my son thinks so!
