Now my daughter is 8 months old she is using stage 2 weaning products, however she dislikes the lumpier chunkier textures and so we are always trying new purees to tempt her with, one of the latest being this one. We have found the Heinz stage 2 weaning products to be slightly smoother and less lumpy than some of the other brands so they are a great stepping stone onto stage 2 products. The Heinz Mediterranean Veggies Chicken and Sweet Potato comes in a 200g glass jar and cost around 90p as a stage 2 weaning product it is suitable from 7 months plus. It is widely available in supermarkets, chemists and online. It is a stage 2 weaning product and counts as 2 of a baby's 5 a day fruit and vegetables. It has no preservatives, artificial colours or flavours and is low slat and gluten and egg free. When you open the jar, unlike some baby foods which sometimes smell a little bit like dog food, this one smell very pleasant and very much like you would expect this dish to smell if served in a restaurant. The puree itself is a dark orange colour with small pieces of vegetable, whilst it is much thicker and chunkier than stage 1 products my daughter found this much easier to eat than some of the other brands she has tried. My daughter really liked the taste. Having tasted it myself it certainly does taste like Mediterranean vegetables however I could not pick out individual vegetables and could not taste the chicken. It does not taste like baby food and is actually quite nice. The downside for us was that everything ended up stained orange, the baby, the bib, the highchair table (she is a messy eater). Thankfully the baby cleaned up well and no longer looks like an oompa loompa however the highchair table bib and where she managed to get it on her clothes have not and despite my very best efforts still remain stained even though they were cleaned immediately after feeding and several times since with various cleaning products. I would recommend this but only if you are feeding your baby naked bar their nappy and only have disposable bibs etc. to hand and covering all surfaces of the highchair first... otherwise the price soon becomes expensive versus the damage by staining. A real shame as otherwise a lovely puree that my daughter enjoyed. Whilst many purees can stain this is by far the worst I've come across... This review also appears on CIAO under the same username.
