I do like to provide homemade food for my 18-month old daughter but, let's face it, we don't always have the time to cook from fresh and sometimes these convenience meals can be a life-saver! I always have a few jars or tubs in my cupboard for times when I don't have the time - or inclination - to cook from scratch.
There are quite a few products in this range, which come in nicely sized microwaveable pots and tend to be around the £1.40 mark. Others in the range include Sunday Chicken Dinner, Cottage Pie and Apple & Pork Casserole.
I find one tub is enough for two portions for my daughter, but she doesn't have an enormous appetite so it may be more like one helping for other babies. These are the perfect size to pack if you're going away for the weekend, and are ready to serve (although I try and avoid cold dinners if possible!).
I have tried most products in the range but my daughter loves pasta and always enjoys the Mum's Own spag bol. The product contains small pieces of spaghetti and lots of rich, meaty sauce and does look quite appetising. There are certainly no leftovers once she gets stuck in. And with no added preservatives, flavours or colours, you can rest assured that these are fine for your baby for the occasional meal.
For busy mums and dads, this is a great, convenient product that always goes down a treat.
My wee one is 12 months old and although she gets a good balanced diet at home, I work 2 jobs as well as being a full time mum so when I am on the go I tend to give her Mums Own Recipe Meals.
Their convenient to cook, healthy and cheaper than buying a meal whilst out and at least this way I know what she's eating and I can control the amount of salt levels, artificial colours or flavouring that she's having.
The Spaghetti Bolognese meal comes in a little plastic pot which the food can be cooked in and she can eat from this as well for convenience. It also saves me carrying extra items with me when out and about.
The outer packaging is recyclable card board which tells you everything you need to know about this product.
This meal is suitable for 12 months and up although personally my wee one was eating these from 10 months but we started weaning her earlier so she was safe to do so.
To cook the meal you simply remove the outer packaging, pierce the film several times and put it in the microwave for a minute. When its don't the meal comes out very hot so I would recommend giving it a good stir and leaving it uncovered for a couple of minutes to avoid any nasty burns.
The pot is bigger than other baby brand pots on the market so there's always some left over, but I would rather this than her eating it all and still being hungry.
The food looks like what it should be and actually tastes like food rather than just tasteless goo that you get in jars.
The main reason I choose Mums Recipe over other brands is because it tells you on the back how many portions of fruit and veg are in each meal so it makes it easier to hit your kids five a day.
I purchase these convenient little pots from Asda and they cost approx 80 pence each.
