Advantages: Great size
Disadvantages: The wrapper
Elijah is really enjoying the weaning process and really likes foods that he can hold in his hands. My mum came down recently with a packet of these for him. I used to give these to Noah too which he really enjoyed.
The biscuits come in packs of ten and are suitable for babies aged 6 months and onwards. They are made of purely organic ingredients and have no added preservatives or colourings. They cost 99p from Sainsburys so I'm guessing they are around this price everywhere. They also come in other flavours such as ginger and chocolate.
The biscuits are rectangular in shape but there edges are rounded off. They are quite smooth to the touch and have Heinz written down the middle. They are a nice tanned colour and are around six inches long. They are a great size for little hands and keep Elijah entertained for quite a long time. He is becoming a pro at swapping it from hand to hand and they are a great size for fitting into his open mouth quite comfortably. He sometimes tries to shove the whole thing in which causes him to urge so if you are going to try these then make sure you keep a close eye on your little one when they are eating it.
These biscuits are very similar to Farleys Rusks in that they dissolve very quickly and easily once they are hit with a liquid. They are great for mixing with milk or water to make a light mushy snack. When Elijah eats these he doesn't tend to choke on lumps because there isn't time; by the time he's munched it and swallowed, its have dissolved. This puts my mind at rest because there is nothing worst than seeing a child choking and not being able to bring up what is stuck.
Obviously I have tasted these. There have been occasions where I have had nothing sweet in the house so have had to resort to stealing one of these. They aren't overly sweet and I suppose you could say they are a little bland but they are meant for weaning so it wouldn't be fair on a baby to give them something too strong I suppose. I know Elijah wouldn't mind this as he quite enjoys a cheese and pickle sandwich so maybe I will try the ginger ones at some point.
The only down side to these biscuits is the fact that the packaging isn't resealable. The packaging is foiled wrapped to retain freshness but once they are opened then that is pretty much wasted. There is no way of folding it over so you have to put the whole thing in a tupperware container to keep them fresh or cover it with cling film. The other thing is that they aren't encased in a plastic tray which makes it easier to break them. Sometimes they have ended up in tiny crumbs because I have put them in my bag on an outting.
Over all these biscuits are a great occasional, sweet treat for little ones who are learning to feed themselves.
Summary: A nice sweet treat for babies.
