I always try to make sure that my daughter stays hydrated. Up until very recently, she was exclusively breast fed and now this is combined with formula. However, as well as her regular milk, we have been giving Molly some extra fluid in the form of Heinz baby juice.
Heinz Baby Juice
Heinz pure apple and blackcurrant juice is suitable to use from 4 months plus. It is made with spring water, is gluten free, has no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and no added sugar. Heinz claim to have taken 'the finest baby grade ingredients' to create this drink. The juice comes already diluted and ready to drink.
I tend to do most of my shopping at Tesco and currently, a 750ml bottle of this juice retails at £1.67. It's not the cheapest product going considering the juice is already diluted so it doesn't last as long as some of the concentrated juices but it is still reasonably priced.
Getting Molly to drink just plain cooled boiled water is near on impossible, she just spits the teat of the bottle back out in disgust so we needed to get the extra fluid into her another way. I still wanted to keep her diet as natural as possible so the Heinz baby juice seemed like the perfect compromise. I attempted to give the juice to Molly at room temperature but she really didn't seem keen, spitting the teat out and screwing up her face. I heated her juice in the microwave for 15 seconds and tried to give her some again. This certainly seemed to do the trick and she guzzled down the entire bottle. Since the first occasion of giving her the juice, we have tried giving it to her at room temperature and she just doesn't seem to like it unless it has been heated so this is certainly something to bear in mind if your baby doesn't seem keen when you first try this product.
As well as the apple and blackcurrant flavour, Heinz produce four other flavours. These are pear, mixed berries and apples, apple and cherry and apple juice.
This is a product I would certainly recommend. It is important to keep you baby hydrated and I think that it must be nice for your child to have something other than milk. The bottle has a screw top lid so can be opened and then re-sealed with the lid meaning it is an easy product to take out in your change bag for the day without needing to worry about leaks. The one downside I can think of if that once the bottle is open, it needs to be kept in the fridge and used within 4 days. There have been a few occasions where we don't use the entire product in the 4 days so sadly some of it has gone to waste.
I bought this for my son when he was 4 months old. This was bought for 2 reasons. The first reason was that he wouldn't take water and he struggled with juice witht the taste and the second reason was that he suffered from constapation which was hard for us both to deal with.
This is full of vitamins for your child and will cost £1.59 from boots and you can also collect boots advantage points when purchasing it.
I have tasted it myself and I must admit I much prefer the normal apple juice that is made for adults but this can be too harsh for a childs stomach.
It comes in quite a big bottle and will explain on the back how much your child should consume each day. It will also tell you what vitamins it holds and why they are good for your baby. It tells you all the ingrediants that it holds so you know what your child is taking in.
This has to be refridgerated once opened and will last upto 21 days after then it must be disgarded. If your child likes this juice then it will be used before the 21 days so there will be no worries.
