Advantages: Taste
Disadvantages: Remember to roll down the bag!!
My son turned seven months old yesterday. We have now passed the stage where his food has to be completely puréed as he was weaned quite early. He has been yearning to get his hands on our toast for a good few weeks now so when I was given some Farley's Rusks I let him try one out.
After tasting it myself, I was completely horrified. They were ridiculously sweet. Luckily he didn't finish the offending item and the rest have been disposed of.
He was obviously more than ready for finger food and it was when I was seeking out an alternative I came across Hipp Organic Little nibbles.
I found them alongside other baby foods/cereals in Tesco. They don't appear to stock them at the moment and I can't remember the exact price. They are however on sale in Boots for £1.25.
the Nibbles are sold in a 120g brown cardboard box displaying the Hipp logo on the front. There is also a picture of the product in the lower corners and a giraffe peering over the top! Not quite sure of the relevance there!
Within the box, the rusks are contained within a foil bag for freshness. The bag does is not resealable and therefore needs to be rolled up firmly after use to ensure the rusks do not become soft - wouldn't be a great finger food then!
The rusks themselves are approximately 6cm long and around 2.5cm in width. They are a pale sandy colour and are rounded at the ends. The Hipp logo is once again on written across the product.
To be honest, the rusks remind me of dog treats!
The shape of the product easily fits into little fingers and with some practice is not always dropped to the floor!
Having tried the rusks myself, they are extremely palatable. Their flavour is none descript, there are no predominant flavours and thankfully they are not overly sweet, if at all. Baby's gums need a good gnaw to break the rusk but once they have managed the initial break, the centre is soft and crumbly and easily swallowed.
James certainly enjoys them and will have two in one sitting.
The rusks can also be used as a breakfast cereal by crumbling them into baby's usual warmed milk. It is suggested that this can take place from 6 months. I've tried this a couple of times but find it a bit fiddly, preferring the ready to mix cereals.
The product is aimed at babies and children aged 6 months to 3 years. At 6 months crumbled as cereal and from 10 months as a finger food.
As the name suggests Hipp Organic products are mainly Organic. I had assumed that they were totally Organic, it was not until I scrutinised the ingredients for this review that I realised they were not!
The rusks contains the following ingredients (all organic):
Wheat flour, wheat starch, sugar, sunflower oil and skimmed milk powder.
The following ingredients are not organic - raising agent (sodium bicarbonate, ammonium bicarbonate) and vitamin B.

I would recommend this product as a little treat for your baby. Easy to hold and enjoyable to eat.
Another fine product from Hipp.
