HIPP Organic Pasta in Tomato and Herb Sauce

My granddaughter is a great little eater - not fussy, will try anything and loves really strong tastes. At the fabulous age of 12 months (Oct 09) she has a really highly developed taste for so many varieties of foods.

Last week we took her for her injections and unfortunately one of the side effects was slightly swollen glands in her little throat. Needless to say her wonderful appetite disappeared. After trying all her favourite foods we tried her on a friends jar of HIPP organic pasta in tomato and herb sauce, that she seemed to be watching as her little boy ate it. She loved it and ate the whole jar in seconds.

I believe that this was down to the fact that the smoother mixture of this 6 month age range was soft on her swollen throat but still had the tastiness her tongue could sense.

HIPP Organic products come in 4 stages - ranging from weaning at stage 1 to 17months plus at stage 4. They also produce drinks and snacks that are healthy options for your little ones.

~~~~ Packaging ~~~~
Their jars also come in colour-coded labels and sizes relating to the stage. I was impressed with the amount of information listed on these jars. My daughter didn't often buy jars or tins of food as she always preferred to make her own baby food from fresh vegetables and fruit.
This jar had a really bright label on the front showing whole and sliced tomatoes and carrots, small pasta tubes and thick slices of ham - all looking fresh and inviting.
The title 'pasta in tomato and ham sauce'sits in the middle of the label in very primary lie writing.
The information about the meal is detailed and inviting. It tells you that the 'delicious and nutritious recipe is a puree of tasty noodles in a tomato & ham sauce- (and I love this bit) ' a taste of the Italian life!' - I didn't realise Italians ate baby food !!! Sorry couldn't resist it.
~~~Ingredients~~~

All the ingredients are organic and there is a good range within this jar. Their proportions are;

Organic vegetables (62%) - 29% tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, onions, - organic noodles (made from durum wheat) 28%, organic ham (8.4%), organic sunflower oil and rosemary.

Looking at the ingredients - I can see why madam liked the jar - tomatoes, carrots and broccoli are her favourite snacks. She will eat ham by the handfuls (if allowed) and she loves onions!! So everything within here was healthy and tasty, even with a sore throat.

I was also told by our friend that all products from HIPP are GM ingredient free, Milk free, soya free, egg and nut free - so the risk of allergies flaring was kept to a minium. There was a warning on the label though that there may contain traces of egg as the factory does use eggs in some of their products.

~~~~Texture, Smell & Appearance~~~~
I'm not going to include taste in this because I'm not into trying baby food!
The appearance was a rich, deep orange coloured puree. It didn't pour as such from the jar but had smooth appearance that looked like it could.
The smell was quite inviting and although my daughter gave it to the little muchkin cold (that's how she prefers it) when heated the smell is even more inviting.
Hmm, maybe that's the Italian taste of life influence.
~~~~ Price~~~~

This 125g jar cost our friend 85p - but they are apparently on offer in the local supermarket (co-op) 3 for £1.50 so bargain. I do still think making your own would be cheaper.

~~~~Conclusion~~~~
Would I recommend HIPP Organic Pasta in tomato & Ham Sauce? Yes - they worked a treat for our little treasure. Although my daughter or I won't need to buy this one for now - she will keep it in mind for the future.
I am glad to say the sore throat seems to be on the mend and baby sweetcorn and asparagus in the hand-held favourites of today.
Thanks for reading x hev
My Grandson is 14 months and liked this also. He's eating more homemade food now though, but I'd recommend these also.
