      organic baby meal

I try to give my son a mixed and balanced diet, consisting largely of meals I have cooked myself. From time to time, however, he does have a few ready made meals from a jar. These are much more convenient for feeding him when I am away from home. I have purchased him a few jars from the HIPP range as the brand appeals to me as they use only organic ingredients.

One meal that he has tried, and loved, is the Vegetables with Noodles and Chicken. This is available in jars for 7 months plus and slightly bigger jars for 10 months plus. The jar for 10 months, which I purchased, is 250g and costs just over £1. I purchased on a supermarket offer of 6 jars for £5 so it actually cost me a little less.

The jar is glass with a metal screw lid. Through the jar you can see the food inside which is an orange-red in colour. There are small bits of noodle contained. The organic vegetables contained are carrot, pea, tomatoes, onions and pepper and there is also organic chicken (although this makes up just 8%). The consistency of the meal is thick, but still a little sloppy. The pieces of noodle and small pieces of vegetables help baby to learn to cope with lumps and chew their food.

The jar does smell quite pleasant - I hate nothing more than feeding my son something that doesn't smell appetising to me. This smells tomatoey - as a meal like this should. My son seems to really enjoy this meal - although he cannot eat a full jar in one sitting as he has a pudding too. One jar contains two meals for us and the jar can be resealed and stored in the fridge for 48 hours after opening so this suits our needs. He loves the textures in the meal whilst not finding the chewing too taxing and laborious - it seems the consistency is just right.

The only thing about this jar is that it is extremely messy - it takes quite some wiping to get my baby's mouth clean, owing to the tomato based sauce. As for any attempts at self feeding.....well, we don't choose this jar for that! Overall though, a decent meal that seems to keep my boy full until his next meal and it must taste nice as he gobbles it all up! As a mum, I am also reassured by the organic ingredients as well as pleased with the practicality.
