Advantages: Baby was content and thriving on it

Disadvantages: Container could be more robust material

Like lots of mums here I did intend to breastfeed but for a variety of reasons stopped completely after 2 months.

Up until this point I was occasionally supplementing boob juice with the ready to feed cartons, but once I'd decided to stop breastfeeding I changed to powder as it was about 1/3 cheaper overall.

A 900g container is just under £8 in Tesco and most other shops, one of the more expensive formulas. As my baby had been on aptamil top ups since she was in hospital at a few days old, this was the natural choice. It was also recommended to me by my Health Visitor and I didn't want to upset her tummy for the sake of a few pennies.

The instructions on the pack are clear. As my baby didn't ever demand to be fed I just gave her what the packet said, by her age. She seemed to thrive on this and was content so I saw no need to change. Once I'd got into a bottle making routine it was second nature, and meant that my husband could get involved in night feeds. The packet is also easy to use, a nice storage space for the scoop and a built in bar to level off the powder. The only problem I found was the container, as it was cardboard, couldn't stand anywhere damp, unlike some of the other brands which are metal and therefore appear more robust.

I do regret not being able to breastfeed for a long time but don't regret giving my daughter aptamil as her food for 4 months - she was happy and thriving on it, couldn't ask for much more.

Summary: If you can't or don't want to breastfeed a nice alternative
