Advantages: YUMMY and good quality
Disadvantages: i guess the price ...
Among my little man's mealtime favourites is this Mango & Banana pot. I do a bit of pots and a bit of homemade food as it makes my life a bit easier some times not worrying about getting so much stuff done.
I was originally attracted to the packaging of the Plum baby foods. The burgundy coloured cardboard box stood out on the shelf and the food combinations were different to that offered by other companies. The full range of Plum foods is organic. I am not overly fussed regarding organic to be perfectly honest but thought I'd mention it as to some of you it is important to know. You can buy the Plum foods at most grocery stores and places like boots. The box has 2 100g pots inside it and usually will cost you around £2.15. The price does rise slightly for the older foods. For the 7 month + pots the price goes to about £2.49. The 10 months + pots come in a pack of one 200g pot and cost roughly £2.
The Mango & Banana pot in particular contains:
* Organic Mango (33%)
* Water
* Organic mango (16%)
* Organic banana (15%)
* Organic quinoa flakes (3%)
* Organic lemon juice
* Antioxidant (ascorbic acid)
I'm not sure why exactly the Mango is listed twice with different percentages but I got that from the Plum website. Maybe different types of Mangos or something silly like that. Quinoa is a natural source of gluten free protein which gives babies new diet an added boost.
Even though the Mango & banana is a 4 months + it has stayed on the shopping list because my son likes it so much.
Some other great tastes:
Pumpkin, carrot & mango
Sweetcorn & carrot
Spinach, parsnip & basil
Plum, pomegranate & guava
Blueberry, banana & vanilla
Red cabbage with apple & chicken
Apple & prune baby breakfast
Some of the mixes sound odd at first but my son loves them and I've given a few a little try and they aren't bad at all. Plum offer a range of purees and mashed foods suitable for weaning and ingredients that are easy for little tummies and growing babies.
A new addition to the Plum range is the fromage frais which if seen by my son he'll go mental until you give him one. I have to admit I was again baffled by the flavours ... Raspberry and Rosehip, Peach and sweet fennel, Strawberry and camomile.
Pigment rich these foods do cause some lovely stains. Most will come out with a little soak in some Vanish so needn't worry too much.
Message from the company regarding shelf life:
"There are indeed no preservatives in the Plum Baby range. The steam method of cooking is done under pressure and this, together with the airtight seal gives Plum Baby pots a 12-month shelf life without the need for any additives. Once opened, of course, the contents of the pot as fresh, store in the fridge and use within 2 days for our 4 months plus range or 24 hours for our 7 months plus."
I'll continue to recommend highly the Plum foods. I know they are more expensive but that's what happens when you get better quality.
