Advantages: convenient

Disadvantages: can't tell the difference

I breastfed my baby, but even after a full feed he still seemed to be hungry, so I bought SMA Gold and after each feed he would have a couple of ounzes.

At 6 weeks I had moved more onto bottle feeding than breastfeeding and although the tin says he only needed 4 ounzes he was on 7!! This was when I decided to buy SMA White for 'hungrier babies,' thinking that we wouldn't need as much and would probably only drink 4 ounzes like the tin says. How wrong could I be?? He still drank 7 ounzes.

I don't see how this can be for hungrier babies when he will drink the same amount of milk. My baby is now 10 weeks old and on an 8 ounze bottle (which the tin says you should give to a baby aged 6 - 12 MONTHS).

Maybe it's just my baby being extremely hungry but shouldn't he drink less of this milk if it's supposed to be more filling?

I don't have any other problems with this milk. My baby took to it well, I would recommend it to anyone, and I would certainly never change what milk I use, but it just seems strange to me.

Does anyone know the difference between SMA Gold and White, because it just doesn't seem any different to me. If there was no SMA White left in the supermarket I would buy SMA Gold and I'm sure my baby would still drink the same amount.

SMA Gold is a curd based milk, easier to dogest and good for delicate tummies; SMA White is whey based, and it takes a little longer to digest, which is why it's recommended for hungrier babies. Some babies are always hungry; Leah was having 7 ounce bottles at 9 weeks, and taking 5 a day! This was of "hungry baby" milk. The HV told me not to worry. As long as her weight gain was good and she was settled between feeds, the amount was irrelevant.

Just be guided by what your baby wants, babies don't know greed so will not overeat easily. I put my two on SMA White and like you it didn't make a blind bit of difference, I think it has more calories in it though!
