Advantages: closest formula to breast milk, easy instructions

Disadvantages: takes time to make up bottles

It is a typical old wives thing, 'breast is best' and when it came to deciding what to do with my little girl, I decided to breast feed. I found this enjoyable and comfortable, and although I produced more milk than she needed, my baby seemed happy. At around five months, things changed. I became more tired and irritable with each day, and as I had been aenamic during my pregnancy, I thought that that was the root of the problem, so I went to see my doctor, had blood tests done but the results showed nothing. I was puzzled at this and decided to ask my friend, who was a health visitor. She asked me as to whether I was still breastfeeding, which I was, and she said to try weaning Izzi onto formula as she thought that that could be the solution. I told my mother about this, who was flabbergasted and said that it was a load of tish tosh and that she breast fed me until 18 months. Contrary to my mum's somewhat dated opinion, I decided to put my baby onto sma gold. I chose it because it said on the tin that it is the closet formula to breast milk. Fortunately, she loved it! We are both a lot happier as a result and although the saying 'breast is best' is true, never be too scared or disappointed in yourself to try formula. It is just as good and doesn't keep your baby awake all night if you've had a drink!

gorgalon, I have deep admiration for you, it is hard enough being a mother under scrutiny!

I was transformed into a nervous and paranoid wreck, by beleiving all the extremely exaggerated boasts of other parents.
Looking back it may well have had something to do with the fact that, I was seen as a father, trespassing in a mothers world, oh well it does not matter now.
Good luck and all the best.

It never ceases to amaze me the things mothers and mothers-in-laws say about how things were in the past. My mother-in-law keeps telling me that her daughter was toilet trained at 12 months! I take no notice any more. You are right, you have to do what is best for you and the baby. If you are both happy, then you have the right 'formula' (excuse the pun!). A good op. Jo
