SMA ready to use follow on milk

The SMA number 2 milk is a Follow-on Milk from 6 months +. According to their packaging SMA's gold system is an advanced range of specially designed formulas to help met the nutritional needs of babies and young children. Every product has a tailored nutrient profile for each stage of growth and development. I have been using this milk now for a couple of months and have been really pleased with it. In my opinion the ready to use milk that you can purchase in cartons is extremely helpful and convenient to use. SMA 2 Follow on milk from 6 months + comes, like the other varieties, in two forms, a powder and also a ready to use liquid although I will be reviewing the ready to use liquid this time. The liquid comes in a carton and this variety has a pinky red colour on the carton to make it easily distinguishable from the other cartons which have a yellow colour for the 1st stage and a blue colour for the hungrier baby. The carton is made of cardboard and is quite strong as you can easily put one of these cartons in your nappy bag and take it out with you for the day without worrying that it will burst open in your bag and spill over everything. What I also like about the cartons is that they are very easy to open. There is a tear section on both the tabs either side and is actually marked with a scissor icon to show you where to open it. Of course it is easier to use scissors but I find it is easily tearable too! The milk itself is quite creamy but to me has quite a bland smell and taste, it is not like real milk but that is what babies like and my little girl sure gulps it down. Another thing I also like about these ready to use cartons is that before they are opened you do not need to refridgerate them so they are extremely handy to take out with you as a back up if you should need them. If you don't use them that day, no harm, you can put them back in the cupboard and they do not go to waste. They are a little expensive to use all the time, they are 56 pence each in Boots but now and again or in the middle of the night they are very handy. Once the cartons are open you can store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours in the carton with the corners turned down. This Number 2 milk is used to complement the weaning diet and is nutritionally superior to cows' milk. The formula includes Omega 3 and 6 LCP's. When reading the list of the ingredients you can also see that it includes lactose, milk powder and so on so if your baby does have any allergies against lactose then this is not the formula to use. I did wonder how this milk was any different from the 1st stage powder but after reading the back of the tub my questions were answered. This formula has an improved protein balance and is fortified with extra iron which are delivered in a smaller amount of milk than infant formula so baby still has an appetite for food. They recommend that it's best to use this milk as part of a mixed weaning diet. I obviously still give my baby milk but I definitely do find that she still has a very healthy appetite for food so I am satisfying all her needs whilst still giving her all the nutrients she needs. The cartons are 250ml each but you can also buy a big 1 litre carton too but I find the little ones are much easier. Obviously I am a supporter of breastfeeding but I have found this a great follow on milk.

A great thing to take instead of taking powder and water

Wow this stuff is brilliant! The packaging is different now to the picture up above here however it is similar, and does contain the same logo. This milk is so easy to prepare compared to the powder however it costs probably double what the powder does. Each container holds aorund 8-9 oz of pre made milk which just needs heating up. I normally transfer it to a bottle and heat it in the microwave then bob is your uncle and the milk is made. The milk is really good for when you baby is sleeping out perhaps at their grandparents or when you are going out for the day, it is really easy to take with you. The only downside about this is that once the carton is opened you cannot reseal it and the remaining of the container must be used within 24 hours. Great if your child is drinking 8oz at a time each feed like mine does however if they don't you might waste more than you use. The cartons cost around 58p each however they are sometimes on offer where they are around 48-50p each. Give it a try, its easy and definatley simple to prepare!!
