Mothercare Baby Nail Scissors
by scooch12
My daughter's nails are so hard to maintain, I've got to wait until she's asleep before doing them! I bought a set of nail clippers from Mothercare and in the set I also received these scissors, I thought I could see which made the job easier.
The set cost around £3.50 although I've just checked their website and the items ... are now only available separately, £1.49 for the scissors. They are simply designed, they come with easy grip white plastic handles and have small stainless steel blades with rounded edges.
I found that the scissors were a bit bulky to use with her fingers when she was a smaller baby, up to around 6 months. I couldn't manoeuvre them enough to trim her nails properly and to a short enough length. Certainly when she was younger they seemed massive compared to her tiny fingers! Now at 10 months, they seem a much better size as her hands have grown a bit but I'm now used to using the clippers for the job as they've been easy to use right from the start. As she gets older though and has less daytime sleep, I feel they'll be handier as it's easy to catch her with the clippers when she's awake.
Even though I prefer to use nail clippers for her nails at the moment, I've still had great use from these. She has single use cartons of milk sometimes and these are a pain to get the tops from as there's no way of opening them other than ripping or cutting. These are perfect for the job as the blades are sharp enough to cut through - we have other scissors in the house but they end up being used for odd jobs in the garage and are not ones I want near my daughter's things. I find with these we all know that they're for use with her things only and that reassures me. They are also great for cutting loose threads on clothing and opening food pouches. Although not their intended use, they are very versatile!
I recommend these scissors as they're a great price, but more as an extra general pair to use. They're extremely handy to have. I rate them 4 stars even though I don't currently use them as nail trimmers. Read the complete review |

Avon Sun Kids Mulitvitamin Sun Cream SPF50
by sparkleychel
== Avon Sun Kids SPF 50 Multivitamin Sun Cream ==
The sun is shining, the birds are tweeting and evenings are getting brighter , it can only mean one thing Summer is on the way . With this my children's school have requested that the children start bringing sun cream to school . So when the Avon book popped through the door ... seemed the perfect time to stock up . The R.R.P of the cream is supposedly £13 but like all Avon is always part of an offer or in the sale. I bought when they had a 3 for £10 offer last year and have just re-purchased with the same offer, so £3.33 each a bargain.
==The Cream ==
The cream comes in a 75 ml tube with flip lid that clips close. It's a white coloured cream and blends into the skin quickly , sometimes especially if applied in the sun , it disappears very quickly and you can only tell where you have applied it by the shine on the skin that sun creams leave.
The cream works by absorbing or reflecting some of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation on the skin when exposed to sunlight and this helps protect against sunburn. The S.P.F [ the sun protection factor ] is 50 , what this means is you can stay in the sun 50 times longer than you could without it , before burning.
The cream contains Activi-D technology to help skin's vitamin D function.
== In Use ==
I apply this to the children in the morning before school and they each take one to school in their bags . Both tubes lasted last summer being bashed around in the bags and the lids still worked perfectly . Both children had no problems using the tube , you only need a light squeeze for the cream to dispense. Neither have had any problems or reaction to the cream . My son does have sensitive skin and using the cream hasn't hurt him in any way.
We use this in the garden and at the beach ,I do apply it again after swimming as although the cream is water resistant, I do think its better to be safe than sorry. The tube is a great size for your bag , and with the high protection factor it's suitable for everyone not just the children.
We used the 3 tubes over the last year , even though my children have olive skin that tans very easily I am quite slap happy with the sun cream.
I have also used the cream , I am not lucky enough to have olive skin , I think my skin colour is know as milk bottle white ,and I would usually burn within 15 minutes of being in the sun but i found the cream very effective and certainly stopped any sunburn .
== Thoughts ==
A great priced sun cream that offers great protection .
So good I bought it again , highly recommended . Read the complete review |

Amber Style Natural Teething Necklace
by Evie-x-
My daughter has been really suffering with her teeth and we have had a few times of her being up at night crying with teething pain. Whilst reading about teething I came across the Amber necklace, I am so glad that I did.
The necklace is made of small smooth pieces of Baltic Amber. After each piece the strong thread of ... the necklace has been knotted so that in the rare event it snapped you would not end of up with Amber pieces everywhere. The necklace does up with a screw type fastener. I felt reassured by this as it looks like if the necklace , heaven forbid, should get caught on something it would snap open releasing the child.
The amber is a natural resin which contains healing oils. as the body warms up the pieces the amber releases the healing oils which are absorbed into the skin and therefore the bloodstream. It is said to provide natural pain relief which I honestly believe it does.
When ordering the amber necklace you have to select a size it is important to remember that you do not want it too tight but you also do not want it so loose that your child pulls on it. When ordering there were a number of colours to choose from such as honey, lemon and orange. The rarer colours are blue, green and white but as far as I know the colour does not make any difference to the healing powers. Some companies also let you choose the shape of the amber.
On receiving the necklace I was pleased with the appearance and I did pull at the necklace to test its durability as it was for my little baby. One of the few downsides to the necklace is more to do with the perception of others. I have had many comments from family, friends and strangers about her being too young for jewellery. I imagine this would be worse if she was a boy. Many people have not heard of amber necklaces for teething so even after explaining its benefits they often turn their nose up!
I truely believe that the amber works my evidence for this is since having the amber she has been a lot calmer even when her poor little cheeks are bright red and she is biting everything. Then we had two days of her screaming she wouldn't settle it was then that we realised the necklace had been taken off by granny!
As with everything this may not work for every child but it has for our daughter. You can buy amber anklets which do the same job but I avoided these as she loves playing with her feet and I felt she would pull it off. It is really important that the child does not chew on the beads as it is not a teething ring.
Finally the price, I paid £16 for my daughters, it came beautifully packaged and arrived quickly. Whilst researching the use of Amber before purchasing the necklace I saw a lot of warnings about not to be tempted by cheap necklaces as these can often be just plastic beads.
My only regret is that I did not know about his for my first child. Read the complete review |
