Aston & Parsons
by sarahrichmond5 A good friend told me about this powder when my son was teething and I have used it for both of my children and will definitely be using it with my baby this time. When I was first told about this herbal powder I didn't hold out much hope I really didn't think it would work but had tried just about everything else so had ... nothing to lose! The powder is made to sooth and relieve the pains of teething. When I first bought the powder I thought the box looked like something out of the olden days the box is very plain and simple and looks like nothing special. Each box comes with 20 sachets of teething powder. You literally just pour the powder into the baby's mouth and that's it - Job done! When I first used the powders I was really impressed. My son was teething and we had tried a lot of other things before and nothing seemed to stop the pain but as soon as I used the powder within about 10mins he was asleep. I continued to use these powders with the same result I would definitely recommend them. They work and have the benefit of knowing that you are not pumping your child full of medicines as these are herbal. When I had my daughter 4 years later I used the powders again when teething started and saw the same good results. The powders are available in lots of pharmacies and some herbal stores too they are around £3 for the pack of 20. Grab some for when your baby is teething I think you will be pleased with the results. Read the complete review |

Ashton & Parsons Herbal Teething Powders
by xmum2threex Ashton and parsons is a natural remedy that helps little one with teething pain. It contains tincture of Matricaria which is extracted from German Chamomille flowers, that helps calm little one down and relieve their pain. When my children began teething I had advice from every direction about how I could help them. One of the things ... that were brought up a number of times was this teething powder. I had never heard of it before but after a recommendation by a number of friends and my Grandma I decided to buy some. This was not easy as most chemists and shops I tried were out of stock and I was told they were unlikely to get anymore in. When we moved to a small village of course I began using our local chemist. While picking up some other bits I noticed this sitting behind the counter. Since then I have only ever found this in two places, so that is one of the major downfalls as it is so hard to get a hold of. Boots used to stock it but now it only seems to be smaller chemists that this is available which a shame as it works so well is. Dosage is half a sachet for children under 6 months old, and anyone above this can have a full sachet. The box tells me it can be added every, one two or three hours depending on what your child needs. It suggests giving the powder in the morning and at night but to be honest I prefer to only use it when little one is visibly distressed to limit the amount of medicine I am giving them. As it works instantly I do think it is possible to leave it to help little one while they are in pain rather than giving it them to prevent it. We have never needed to use it more than once every 6 to seven hours as it seems to settle little one and keeps working for long periods of time. This is a major advantage for me as it means I do not constantly have to give them medicine. The directions say to apply the powder straight to the tongue but I found it worked differently with each of my children. My son preferred it to be rubbed into his gum and around the problem area. He was not keen on the powder being poured into his mouth which is the suggested way to apply. My other children were happy for the sachet to be poured. The first time can be hard work as little one isn't sure what is happening and just see a white piece of paper coming towards them. After the first few times I found they realised that this helped their pain so they were happy to open wide and allow me to tip the full powder onto their tongue. This seems to work for the whole of the mouth so there is no need to apply it directly to problem areas. It can be tricky at first to tip the powder into little ones mouth especially if they are not keen on taking medicine. As you need to tilt the powder and run it down a crease in the paper it can be messy, and the first few times I did manage to spill some of the powder. The powders really dosent have a taste to it. I tried it and as it numbs your mouth as soon as it hits your tongue, so there is no horrible taste to put little one off. The powder dissolves in seconds leaving no trace of it behind at all. The effects are instant my children can go to a full on screaming match to curiously running their tongue around their mouth. This leaves them to get on with what they were doing with no more pain at all. It is like a miracle powder as it both removes the pain from little one at calms them at the same time. The relief on my children's faces is evident, and I can honestly say they seem to have no problems after this has been applied. The thing we love about this is the amount of time the powder seems to work. With other teething medicines we have found after three to four hours little one is becoming irritable again. With Ashton and Parsons the relief seems to last for long periods of time, and even after six to seven hours my children are still happy and pain free. As there are 20 sachets of powder in the one box, and it does have such a lasting effect a box of these will last me months. If I was able to purchase these they would be my first choice every time. They are not just useful for teething. They can also be used to calm little one down when they are poorly and generally not settling. I only use them for teething pains but I can see why they would be useful in other situations as it does calm little one down instantly. Summary These powders are a natural way to ease little ones teething pain. They work instantly, have lasting effects and my children are happy to take them. They reduce little ones pain so they can get on with the day while still being a natural remedy. The thing is they are so hard to come by, and it only seems to be smaller independent chemists that have them available. This is something that my Grandma suggested I tried, and I know that my mother used them too. They are a reliable brand and I only wish that they were more readily available. I would highly recommend these to anyone that has a little one with teething pains. Retail is around £3-£5 for 20 sachets, but this last me around two to three months. They are selling on Amazon and eBay for up to £60 which is crazy money, but your best bet is to try small independent chemists as this is the only place I have ever found them. Ashton & Parsons Herbal Teething Powders
by emmad5689 When my eldest daughter was teething a friend off mine recommended we buy some of this teething powder as she had had great success using it with her children, we lived near quite an old style chemist and found that they stocked it which was great as the only other place I saw it was in Boots, you get 20 powders per box and it cost £2.50 ... at the time of us buying them. The product comes packaged in a small white cardboard box with writing printed on either side of the box, on the front it states "A herbal product traditionally used in infants for the symptomatic relief of the pain and stomach upset associated with teething. If before first use you find end seals are broken, do not use and return pack to the address on the box. For Teething with a Smile!" and on the rear it states "Ashton and Parsons Infants' Powders are intended to soothe the child; check stomach disorders; correct the motions; relieve restlessness, fretfulness and similar troubles incidental to the teething period and are useful in delayed or unduly prolonged dentition. Mothers may enjoy ease of mind in the knowledge that these powders are reliable and contain nothing harmful" Inside the box you find lots of little folded up paper parcels all neatly in a row, I found it quite strange that the powder came inside folded up pieces of paper however it made dosages must easier. Babies under 6 months can have half a sachet which may be quite difficult but we started using it after our daughter was 6 months so she could have a full sachet which was very easy. To administer the powder you have to unfold the paper and then you can tip the powder onto a spoon or tip straight into your babies mouth if you find that easier, I personally made a fold in the middle of the paper so the powder had a shoot to go down and then tip it straight into my daughters tongue. You are supposed to give the powder morning and night however if your child is restless you can repeat every 2-3 hours as required. I found it was actually quite easy to give the powder which I didn't think it would be and my daughter accepted it easily, I'm not sure I would want a load of powder pouring into my mouth. The powders work fantastically and really helped to settle my daughter down, we used the powders right through the teething process and I found the powders much better than any teething gels. When my second daughter started teething I tried to get hold of these powders but found that they are now pretty hard to come by, I could find them on Ebay but was a little dubious buying something like this from Ebay as I would actually want to check the box over myself, we ended up being really lucky and our second daughter didn't struggle with her teeth so we managed her pain with nelsons powder and gels. This is a fantastic product. Read the complete review |
