Great for me and my daughter!
Member Name: taramorg23
Advantages: Effectively numbs pain!
Disadvantages: The taste may not suit everyone!
I had tried several different teething products for my daughter, unfortunately none of them really had an effect. On a trip to Boots the pharmacist recommended Anbesol liquid. It cost me £4.55 for a bottle which contains 15ml of the liquid. I vagely remember using this years ago for toothache and remembering how good it was so I was hoping it would have a similar effect for my daughter.
The liquid comes in a small glass bottle with a screw off lid. It is suitable for adults, children and also babies. It is designed to provide fast and effective relief from mouth ulcers, teething pain and denture irritation.
The active ingredients are;
Lidocaine Hydrochloride, Chlorocresol and Cetylpyridinium Chloride.
To use the liquid for adults and children you are advised to apply the solution undiluted directly to the affected area with a clean fingertip. You can apply it twice in one application and you are able to apply the liquid up to 8 times a day.
If you are using the liquid for babies teething then you are advised to apply it directly to the sore area of the gum using a clean wet fingertip. You are advised not to reapply this for another 30 minutes. You can also use it up to 8 times a day.
When you open the bottle you get a powerful smell which reminds me of a combination of alcohol and clove oil. The liquid is pale brown in colour.
My daughter is currently cutting her two front teeth and she is obviously in a lot of discomfort, she tends to press down on that area of her gums with her forefinger and she can be a little grizzly. The liquid was easy to apply and you could see for her the relief was instant. She didn't pull a face at the taste which I was quite suprised at as she hates Bonjela and normally retches when I apply it. This is really convienient to take out and about in my changing bag and by far the most effective thing I have tried for her. The only thing I would recommend is not to use it too close to a feed as I made that mistake and my daughter who is breastfed struggled to latch on.
I have also used this myself. I suffer from chronic mouth ulcers due to a gastric problem and I didn't have anything in the house to use on them. In desperation I was using salt water until I remembered we had Ambesol liquid in the house. I applied this to the affected areas and immediately the pain disappeared. It didn't cause me any stinging which I find rare for a mouth ulcer treatment. It does taste overwhelmingly of clove which I happen to like the taste of but it's not for everyone. Luckily the taste does disappear quickly. It is so effective at numbing that I couldn't feel my mouth for a good half hour of so. Unfortunately the effects don't last any longer than about half and hour so I did need to reapply it. I also think that it helped in the healing process as most of my ulcers last 7-14 days and they seemed to clear quicker this time.
I would definately recommend this as it is really easy to use and a bottle will last a long time as you only need a dab with each application. As it is suitable for the whole family it is also a handy addition to have in the cupboard.
Summary: A great little bottle to have in your bathroom!
