Advantages: NOne
Disadvantages: Costly, didn't work for my daughter
My daughter is a dry teether, she never dribbles and so seems to be terribly bothered with teeth. In fact, she seems to feel literally every movement through the gum. We have lengthy bad spells of teething and then a break. It is during those times that I give anything I can to give my daughter relief. I try not to always reach for the calpol and opt for the likes of calgel first, however a friend of mine recommended anbesol liquid and felt that it was enough to give rapid pain relief for sore gums.
So, whilst in Boots waiting to pay for something, I noticed behind the counter the anbesol liquid that my friend had mentioned. I asked the member of staff that was serving if she knew if it was any good, and she informed me that she had heard great things about it, and it had been out of stock for a long time with mothers crying out for it in the meantime. It isn't a cheap product, in fact, a small 15ml bottle of this liquid costs around £4.50, but I am always willing to give any teething product a go.
On the box of the product, it claims to offer 'rapid relief' for mouth ulcers, teething and denture irritation so its use is not restricted to babies. When I brought this home, my husband commented that it was a product that his parents used to have in their house for use when they had mouth ulcers, but it was never a product that any of them found to be totally effective. I ignored his negativity, since Iwas so sure that it would offer good pain relief for my daughter.
THis product is both an antiseptic and works as an anaesthetic . TO be effective on children older than baby age, you should apply two applications of this product onto the sore area.
I got my chance to try this product out pretty quickly as my daughter was going through a bad bout of teething at the time. I applied the product twice onto what suspected was the sore area of the gum that was bothering her at the time. I expected within a short time, to see a calmness with my daughter, as the pain eased, but it simply didn't happen, so I reached for my calgel, and there was a definite change in her manner when it kicked in. So sure was I that this product was good, I tried it a second time when my daughter was in discomfort and quite grisly! Again, I didn't see any major effect on her mood, and she only settled when I gave her teething gel.
I sooo wanted to like this product, and was positive this would offer the relief my daughter needs during teething without always reaching for the calpol. I just didn't see any effect from it on my daughter and I wish I hadn't wasted my money. My husband is now gloating that he is right about it not being very effective, but I really cannot understand all the wonderful reviews it gets as it simply does not work for my daughter. Disappointing.
Summary: A product that simply didn't work for my daughter
