Advantages: Works in good time, apparently tastes nice, good price
Disadvantages: Sometimes needs teaming up with Ibuprofen
I truely believe that the supermarkets brands are as good as the branded products and so this is what I always buy so when my daughter was having tummy problems and was in pain I had no reason not to buy Asdas own brand of paracetamol rather than the much more expensive Calpol. I have now used many different versions of supermarket paracetamol from when my little one wa having immunisations to teething to bringing temperatures down and it does the job that is required.
The packaging has actually changed since the above picture and the box is now in purple, pink and white with a little teddy bear pictured on it, the packaging is eye catching and eay to spot on the shelf because of it's colours.
My daughter tells me that this medicine tastes nice although I haven't tried it myself but my younger daughter who isn't able to talk properly yet has no objections taking the medicine either. The liquid itself is pink in colour which always pleases my daughter and is quite thick which of course helps it to stay on the spoon while you administer it, the liquid is very sticky and no matter what I do the bottle seems to get sticky too.
The dosages are clearly printed on the box and the bottle which is made of brown glass with a white childproof lid,
3 months - 1 year = 1/2 to 1 5ml spoonful every 4 hours with a max of 4 doses in any 24hours
1 year - 6 years = 1 to 2 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours with a max of 4 doses in any 24hours
6 years - 12 years = 2 to 4 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours with a max of 4 doses in any 24hours
On the box it advises that you should not give this medicine to your child for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor and you should not give to children under 3 months of age except for a post immunisation fever when you can give one 2.5mls dose followed by another 6 hours later.
I have tried the Calpol brand as foolishly when my first daughter was born I believed that by buying her Calpol I was giving her the best, I have since tried near enough every supermarket brand of paracetamol and I know that this one works just aswell as the rest. This seems to help bring a temoperature down within about 20-30 minutes although since my children get really bad temperatures I do usually team this with Ibuprofen. Fior pain relief I would say this medicine seems to make the children feel better within about 30 minutes which although obviously when it is your children you want them out of pain straight away I don't thinbk this length of time is unacceptable. This product is great and at around £2 a bottle it is about half the price of Calpol.
