Having a daughter with very pale skin, sunscreen is a must in our house!
Banana boat sun cream in hypoallergenic and fragrance free. This particular lotion is SPF 50, and is a screen for both UVA and UVB rays. An added bonus in our house is that it is paraben free (so less chemical nasties!) and contains no lanolin derivatives (as my daughter is allergic to lanolin).
It comes in a pink pump action bottle, which helps with putting the correct amount of lotion on in each application. However, you need to put the cream on your hands and apply to the face this way, as you should not spray the lotion directly onto the face. It coats the skin well, and soaks in nicely. The skin may look slightly greasy for a short period of time, but it soon disappears.
This lotion is used by all my family (my husband and I are also fair skinned, and I have a slight sunlight allergy which this cream is brilliant for!) it can be pricey, but is worth the money in my opinion.
As a caring mother, I always apply sunscreen on my children's skin to protect them from harmful sun rays especially in the hot summer days when they go out playing with their mates or go swimming with their uncle.
I constantly look for the best products for my kids and as I was advised, I use sunscreen with at least SPF 50 to protect their soft skin. When my kids were younger they used to give me a hard time when applying sunblock to their skins. In order to stop this resistance, I tried to educate them about the importance of using sunscreen from a very young age and I made it sound like fun too. It wasn't an easy job I must say but at the end of the day I was rewarded and now they apply sunscreen before and after swimming.
At the moment I'm using banana boat sunscreen lotion as it was highly recommended by a friend of the family who use it for her kids. I'm extremely satisfied with the product, it does what it says and I'm proud to recommend using banana boat lotion on your precious little babies and kids.
=== Banana Boat sunscreen lotion ===
== The packaging ==
The lotion comes in a soft plastic tube. The tube is mainly pink with some colourful writings and it has the name of the product and a cute picture of a baby wearing sunglasses. It states clearly that the lotion is SPF 50 which is highly recommended for young children and babies.
At the back you can find the list of the ingredients and the directions.
The tube has a solid plastic cap which is easy to open so the tube can stand upright. The tube is slender and compact size so it's easy to store and to carry around in handbags or swimming bag.
== The consistency and the colour of the lotion ==
As a lotion, I was expecting to see a runny or thin mixture however In this case is was the complete antithesis. The lotion was thick however I was not sure why they called it "lotion", as it is very thick and creamy that I had to squeeze the tube a bit hard to get the "lotion" out of it. The colour of the lotion is pearly white, it is white to ensure that it can mark the areas covered so you won't miss any part.
== The smell ==
It was stated on the tube that Banana boat sunscreen is a FRAGRANCE FREE lotion however it isn't smell free as I could still smell something, it's not the best smell in the world, the closet thing I could resemble it to is the smell plastic which was not too bad once it is absorbed by the skin.
== Applying the lotion to your baby or child skin. ==
The lotion is specially formulated to suit babies and young kids skin. It has a special formula that provides full UVA and UVB protection and it is also enhanced with some vitamins such as Vitamins A, C, E, and Aloe Vera for softer skin and even more protection.
Applying the cream to your child's skin is so easy, all you need to do is to apply the lotion generously and in even amounts on the skin of your child. This will ensure that all the areas exposed to the sun are well covered with the lotion. The good thing about it is that you can easily check that the areas are covered because the white lotion will mark the area covered so you won't miss a bit. The best thing is to apply 15 minutes before going out. You can always reapply when necessary and particularly after swimming and towel drying.
== The results ==
It took a while for the lotion to penetrate the skin but after that I was pretty confident that the kids were well protected for longer. My kids were so happy with it as it didn't irritate their skin and it didn't itch or irritate the skin hence they did complain about it like they usually do with other sunscreens.
The only thing that I had noticed about it that the lotion was slightly too thick and can leave some oiliness and can stain your towels; other than that it's perfectly fine.
I used it on my kids, the eldest and the youngest and all of them were satisfied.
As a parent, I was completely satisfied with the product and I was reassured that my kid's skin was well protected against the harmful rays of the sun. Banana boat sunscreen is water resistant, it is gentle, Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. It's not a sunscreen only, it moisturises the skin as well. The new part is that it has AvoTriplex which is a new technology that enables products to maintain their UVA protection for longer.
== Please note ==
Consult a physician or your GP before using on babies under six months of age.
== Where to buy ? ==
Banana Boat products are sold by most major retailers and independent chemists and of course you can find it online. I bought mine from Wilkinson's. The prices are on the expensive side as it cost from £6.99 to a whopping £8.99 for a tiny 118g tube but it is well worth it.
== recommendation ==
Let your mind be at peace by protecting your kids from harmful sun rays by applying this whenever they are out on an outing. I'm happy to say that Banana Boat sunscreen is so far the best sunscreen I have ever used. It's slightly on the expensive side but it well worth it and I'm going to buy it again and again. I'm giving it 4.5 stars because it's an excellent product.
The tube is recyclable.

I purchased two 235ml bottles of Banana boat tear free advanced UVA/UVB sunscreen spray lotion, brand new from Ebay for the bargain price of £5!
The bottle is pink with the banana boat trademark logo on the front and the description of the suntan lotion. The lotion has a sun protection factor of 50, therefore the highest SPF that you can get for babies. It states on the front of the bottle that it is hypoallergenic, fragrance free and water resistant, the top is a dark pink, pump action spray.
The directions it gives you on the back are as follows - Shake well before use, apply generously and evenly to all areas 15 minutes before exposure to the sun, do not spray on the face, you should apply it to your hands and then apply it to the face, to prevent it making contact with they eyes. You should then re apply at frequent intervals or after swimming, towel drying and perspiring. Although this is designed for babies it is still advised that you should keep babies out of the direct sunlight until they are at least a year old.
The spray itself is white and just like the bottle says, is fragrance free, which I think is very important when spraying it on the sensitive skin of a baby. I haven't been on holiday yet with Rhys but we are going abroad in 6 weeks, so this lotion will be tested properly then. I have used it a few times whilst in the UK, just mainly on his arms and legs when it has been a hot day and he has been out in the pushchair, he has never got burnt or got a sun tan so I can presume that the lotion works just as it should do. I find that the spray bottles are much easier to use than the one's without, this spray rubs in very easily without leaving any white residue.
A gentle spray that won't irritate baby's delicate skin.
