Ease the teething nightmare.
Member Name: ButterBear
Advantages: Chewing on them provides distraction from pain
Disadvantages: Ribbon doesn't work as intended, can be dangerous if child is unattended
As all parents will know one of the more traumatic experiences a young baby will go through is teething, theres no way to avoid it those little pegs have to come through eventually. Some people are lucky, like I was with my little boy, he had all his teeth by the age of six months and had almost no pain(well he didnt complain about it any way) other people have a complete nightmare from the second the tooth even thinks of growing, my daughter had some problems with her teething, she didn't complain too much but she'd chew on whatever she could get her chubby hands on and when she's choosing shoes and dog biscuit I have to draw the line. I remembered my little sister using Bickiepegs when she was a baby(18 years ago!) and, noticing that they were still around, decided they were worth a try.
Recommended by health visitors and dentists Bickiepegs were developed in 1925 by a leading paediatrician - Dr. Harry Campbell - they provide the correct movement and exercise considered to be vital to the development of a baby's jaws and teeth, they have the added bonus of easing the pain of teething, which is more the reason why parents buy them.
Bickiepegs come in small boxes(45g) containing 9 biscuits and 1 ribbon, they box is primarily lilac in colour with the image of a laughing baby on the front, importantly, showing its teeth. The front of the box, naturally, features the logo and the description "teething biscuits for babies" the box is cellophane wrapped for hygeine reasons. You also get a leaflet within the box with instructions, details of other products and an order form.
Bickiepegs are approximately 2 1/2 inch long chunks with a hole through one end(for the ribbon) they are light brown in colour and quite frankly rock hard!
The ribbon supplied is meant to be threaded through the hole in the biscuit and tied to the babies clothes so it wont fall on the floor when it gets dropped.
There is roughly a 2 year life expectancy on each box of Bickiepegs, the use by date is found at the bottom of the front of the box in the centre, just by the "no added sugar or salt claim"
Suitable for babies over 6 months of age.
Give your baby the Bickiepeg for no more than 20 minutes, discard the Bickiepeg after this time, do not reuse it.
Never leave your baby alone with the bickiepeg and never put your baby to bed with one.
Do not dip it in sweetner or liquid.
Never tie the ribbon around the neck!
Once you have opened a packet keep the Bickiepegs in a sealed container, they have no specific temperature recommendations. Always keep the box though so you know the use by date of the Bickiepegs
Bickiepegs are made from very few ingredients and are all natural, they contain no added sugar, sweetner, colourings or flavourings.
Bickiepegs are Kosher and suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
The ingredients are- Wheatflour, wheatgerm, water.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
Bickiepegs are available from pharmacies(inc boots and superdrug) and supermarkets as well as online. Just look in the baby section and they're easy to find, usually on an upper shelf. The price is in the region of £1.65 per box but may vary depending on the shop.
Well first i'll talk about the ribbon, I understand why they advise you not to tie it around your babies neck, however, the ribbon supplied in my pack is no longer than 8 inches and will not even go around clothes, ok yes I could tie it around my daughters clothes but then it wouldnt reach her mouth. The ribbon is simply not usefull in the way it was intended. I did tie the ribbon onto a biscuit but it just got sucked and I took it off again not wanting it to come loose and choke my daughter.
My daughter has given the Bickiepegs a good chewing in her attempts to help her teeth through, I dont really know how effective they are at bringing through the teeth as they've got to come through eventually anyway but they seemed to satisfy her urge to bite things.
The Bickiepegs themselves seem indestructable, ive tried snapping them, hitting them with a rolling pin.......these are tough little biscuits, in fact you could probably build houses with them. Theres certainly no worry about bits breaking off and being swallowed. Ive tried a bite myself, they dont taste of much and when I bit down I could feel how tough they were through the pressure on my own teeth. Theres very little scent to them, a very faint bread like smell but one you really have to sniff for. There is certainly little appeal other than the fact they help with teething pain, theres no way you'll want to sneak one of these while your little one isnt looking(unlike farleys rusks!)
I would definitely recommend these to someone who's baby is suffering teething pains just remember not to leave the child alone with it.
Summary: Great for easing teething pain in youngtsers
