I bought the Boots digital thermometer in preperation of the birth of my son, I have used it countless times in the 6 months we've had him. I used it first when he was a few days old, to get an idea of his 'usual' temperature, as a childs temperature can vary between 36 centigrade and 37.5 centigrade.

The thermometer itself retails at £8.99 and comes in a hard, clear plastic casing to protect it, also keeping it clean. It can be used either under the tongue or under the armpit, although the temperature will be higher under the tongue than the armpit.
It has a digital screen showing the temperatures in centigrade. The on/off button also shows the last temperature taken if you hold the button down, which is very handy if you need to contact the G.P.
The fact that it contains no glass or mercury like the older type thermometers is great, it makes them much safer to use on small children.

To take a temperature orally, place the tip of the thermometer under the tongue and close your mouth. It will beep once it has taken the reading.

To take an under arm temperature, place the tip under the arm so it is touching the skin. Keep your arm down, holding it in place until it beeps with the final reading.

The only thing I find 'wrong' with the product is that it takes quite a while to take a reading. This can make it difficult with a wriggly child/baby.
