Advantages: No fussing easy to use and fab values

Disadvantages: Could be a nicer colour

When my baby was a few months old she kept on getting temperatures. Being first time parents we didn't really know what to do. Her Dad gets very worried about these things and sends her too the doctors.Unfortunatly so does the Doctor and sends us too the hospital. After waiting about 6 hours and giving urine samples we are always sent home with a bit of infant suspension.

Before she was born we never thought of buying a digtal thermometer, as we recieved lots of free forehead ones. As most people will know babies don't keep still for forehead thermometers. So seeing a digital one in the hospital I was very impressed and set out to buy one.

We went to Boots as they have a good choice and the added advantage of earning advantage points. There were 5 or 6 different ones too choose from. I really wanted the Calpol one that I have always seen advertised mainly because it is purple. But I didn't realise that it was £30. This seemed a little expensive. Then we saw the Boots digital thermometer for £8 3x less than most brands. We bought it not expecting much from it.

I was wrong. It may not look much. Its a boring clinical grey colour , not vibrant purple and it has no exciting functions. But it is excellently made for its purpose.

It comes in a small oblong box with some simple instructions. The thermometer itself has a plastic cap on so you can keep it hygenically in your first aid box without having a bulky cardboard box taking up precious space. The termometer is very small too so would even fit in a travel first aid kit if need be.

The thermometer has a metal end that can be use under the arm, mouth or anus. I am too scared to try the latter and theres no way she would keep it in her mouth so the arm option worked best for us. Unfortunalty this is no patch on the amazing hospital ones were they place it in the ear and 2 seconds later the temperature is read. With this on you simply press the small button on the end of the stick wait about 20-30 seconds. When it has taken the read it makes two small beeps. The read shows up on the small screen next to the button, simply telling the temperature in degrees celcious. I would prefer it if the screen was backlit to make it a bit easier to see but this would probably make the price rise.

I find this thermometer amazing value for money, and i'm sure it will last for a long time. Perfect size and does exactly what it says on the box.

Summary: Very useful
