Life Saver Gel
Member Name: kemo_2002
Advantages: Numbs pain fast
Disadvantages: washed away easily
This gel is for children aged 3 months up and is designed to ease the pain when your child is teething, to apply you simply place a pea sized amount on your finger and run into your Childs gums.
*** Packaging ***
Comes in a rectangular cardboard box, on the front of the box is the 'Calgel' label followed by a short sentence which includes what is in the product and then a short description of what it is used for
To the left is a picture of a baby then a sign that says 3 months+ and also a sugar free sign.
On the top of the box there is a further breakdown of exactly what is in the product and a longer description of how the gel works.
On the bottom of the box is the barcode and direction of how to use the product, also information on storage and warnings.
Inside the box is a leaflet that I advise you read before hand as it goes into a lot more detail about the product.
The gel in in a small tube about 10cm long, on the tube is has the majority of information that is on the box, this is in case you lose the box you still have something for reference.
To the left of the tube is a screw top cap, to undo this you need to turn it anti clockwise
*** The Product ***
The product is a gel, which is of average thickness, no too thick that it drips out, but if you tip the tube up it will start to ooze out. It had a yellow tinge colour to it also, there is a strong clinical smell that you will notice as soon as you unscrew the cap, its not a minty smell, it smells very medical.
I did have a taste before I used in on my daughter, and its not a horrible taste, again it taste very clinical/medical (smells a lot of hospitals!) The taste doesn't last too long on the tongue which is a plus.
*** How did I find it? ***
I did the test on my gum so I cant say it 'eased any pain' because I wasn't in any, I can say though that it semi numbed my gum, it worked almost immediately.
When my daughter was teething we used this all the time, for best effects, we massaged it into her gums (as much as she would let me) she actually tried sucking it off my finger so it cant taste that bad. I have to say she stopped crying immediately, so pretty safe to say it worked! I actually noticed a difference in her gums also, from them being red and swollen, after a few minutes they swelling started to ease.
*** Negatives? ***
The problem is with any gels is that they are easy washed away as babies are constantly wanting something to drink,.
It does say on the direction that you can apply it every 20 minutes, which was fine, but only up to 6 times a day which caused problems in between drinking as we could only apply it ever so often.
*** Summary ***
It works really well with immediate effect, the main problem I found is only being able to apply it 6 times a day.
This is probably because it has a mild antiseptic which is why it works so well, you can get other teething gels which you can apply as much as you like but do no contain this antiseptic, so although you can put as much on as you like, they don't have the same effect.
What we found easiest was to buy this one, and they get one that you can apply all the time as well, he downside is in doing this it cost you more, but I was willing to do this if it eased my child. A word of warning though, make sure you check that both don't contain antiseptic otherworld this can be harmful.
All in all, really good value for money, I would choose this product every time.
