Advantages: great for children who are ill
Disadvantages: none whatsoever
Calpol infant suspension 2 months + is an essential medicine for any parent to have in their cupboard. It is a paracetemol based medicine especially for children. It comes in a strawberry flavour and is very sweet so most children will take this with no problems. It can be used to relieve aches and pains, any fever that the child may have and take away any discomfort that the child may be feeling.
It is a bright pink medicine and it is not very thick. The bottle is made out of brown glass and has a child proof white cap. You can get a sugar free option in this medicine which i always buy as i think its important to look after childrens teeth. There is hidden sugar in so many foods these days so if i can help by choosing sugar free medicine then i will.
Dosage
Babies 2-3 months can be given a 2.5 ml dose if needed and then if necessary a further 2.5 ml can be given 4-6 hours later. Calpol cannot be given to premature babies according to the label on the bottle but im not sure why this is.
Babies aged 3-12 months can be given a 2.5 ml- 5 ml dose. Children aged 1-6 years can be given either one or two 5ml spoonfuls at one time. This can be repeated with at least four hours in between each dose. You can give this medicine to your children up to 4 times in a 24 hour period and should not be given to a child for more than 3 days in a row. If your child is still ill and still showing signs that they have not got better then you should go and see your doctor.
To buy a 100ml bottle it should cost you around £2.50. It is also avaliable in handy sachets as well. I have found these very useful to take away on holiday or they are very handy to keep in your bag as they are already measured out in a 5ml dose.
Recently i have seen different products from Calpol in the shops, im not sure how long they have been avaliable but it is only recently that i have seen them. These other products are-
Calpol night
Calcold
Calpol 6 years +
Calcough tickly
Calcough chesty
Calgel for teething
Calprofen and
Calpol vapour plug and nightligt.
My eldest loves Calpol and is always first in line to take it but my youngest refuses point blank to take any medicine whatsoever, he just spits it all back out. I don't like to give them any medicine unless its absolutely necessary but i know that i can always rely on Calpol if i need it. As with all medicines Calpol should be stored away from where children can reach it.
Summary: a must for every parent to have in the house
