Advantages: Fast working pain relief
Disadvantages: sticky if spilt.
My title also refers to the Calpol advert where they say "sorry but your kids will be back to normal in no time"
I've needed to use this a few times over the last couple weeks with both my kids. I will need to buy some more though now as it's up to 6yrs and my son is now 7yrs and I always like to keep some of this in the house.
This is a sugar free infant strawberry flavoured medicine containing paracetamol. It is a must have in my house as have used it when needed since my son was a baby and always found the results to be good and also fast. My kids have never had a problem with the taste unlike some medicines, usually antibiotics which taste vile. The downfall I find with this medicine is that if you do manage to spill any it is quite sticky. But the results of using it outweigh any mess made.
Each bottle of Calpol comes in a brown bottle and is brought in a purple box as picture shows. There is a white measuring spoon in each box too which is very handy as it measures out 2.5ml or 5ml depending on which dosage you require. The bottle also has a childproof cap on it the push down and screw type.
Calpol can be used for many reasons, a child that is having side effects from their jabs, has pains, fever, teething and other uses. I used some with my son last week who came over hot and tired and had a sore throat. A few days later my daughter was feeling under the weather too so she had some. I find once taken it works fast and within 10-15 minutes a high temperature can start to go down or the medicine can help settle them to sleep.
The medicine itself is a pale pink colour and tastes of strawberry. It is thick consistancy. It's important to shake the bottle well before use, this mixes the paracetamol part all up giving a correct dose when poured out.
I'd never continually use medicine if an issue was not going away but a day or two if needed I feel is fine and also the instructions usually say to consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more then 24hrs.
It is important to read the dosage advice on all medicine and especially Calpol even if you are a frequent user as recently they have changed the dosage amounts needed so refer to information.
The dosage information is on the label of the bottle and box. It is clear and easy to understand. The dosages are in months then years for older infants. Ask your chemist for a syringe if needed for a baby as they are unlikely to open their mouth when asked and the syringe can be a lot easier for you to use.
This costs approx £2 for a 100ml bottle which I feel is well worth the money for the peace of mind it gives knowing it will help sooth your child's pain. It can be found in all chemists and major supermarkets.
Summary: Recommend highly, cheap price to pay for peace of mind.
