Advantages: Sachets are really handy
Disadvantages: None
Calpol sachets are a brilliant idea. They are little sachets that contain the correct dose for 1 5ml spoonful of Calpol. This makes it really easy to make sure you are giving your child the correct dosage as it would be dangerous if you are just guessing using a household spoon and giving them too much or the spoon may be too small and you are not giving them enough to help relieve their symptoms.
The package tells you which doses to give to each age group. For babies aged 2 - 3 months you can only give them half a sachet so you would still need to measure it out onto a spoon, but then it is easier to feed it to a baby on a spoon anyway. You musn't give a baby this small more than 2 half sachets. For babies aged 3 - 12 months you can give them between half and a whole sachet. It would probably still be easier to feed it on a spoon. For children between 1 - 6 years old you can give between one and two sachets of Calpol. I have found that it is easy to cut the top off the sachet and then let the child squeeze the medicine straight out of the sachet. Not sure if this is how you are supposed to do it but I find the child will take the medicine this way where as if you put it on a spoon they are more likely to shy away from it and not want it.
The Calpol is flavoured with a nice strawberry flavour to make it taste a bit better for the child as there is nothing worse than trying to get a child to take a medicine that tastes horrid especially when they are ill. The medicine it contains is paracetomol so this is why you need to be really careful about dosage as it can cause serious problems if you overdose on this drug. The medicine is sugar free which is a really good thing as you know it is not going to affect their teeth or give them a sugar rush.
The sachets are really handy to keep in your handbag just in case your child falls ill while you are out. There are all kinds of things that you can use the medicine for, like teething, headache, toothache, sore throat, cold and flu, ear ache and other aches and pains. I find the sachets are great too because if, like me, you look after your grand children now and then, my daughter will buy a big box of these sachets and then just leave a couple round my house in case they need them while I am looking after them save sending round a bottle which might then get forgotten and then she would be without the medicine when they got home again.
You can currently by 20 sachets in a box from Boots for £4.99.
