Advantages: Pain relief and good for them

Disadvantages: Buying tons of carrots and cucumber!

Both my kids teethed from a very early age, cutting their front teeth at about 5 months. The larger molars and incisors all seem to erupt at about the same time so teething is pretty painful.

The best thing we found for the sore gums is a combination of Dentinox teething gel and cold fresh vegetables and fruit.

Dentinox gel can be used about every 20 minutes rather than every 4 hours with some analgaesics that contain paracetamol like Calpol where Dentinox does not.

Keep carrots, cabbage and cauliflower stalks, and cucumber cut into sticks in the fridge to keep cold. Teething rings ar OK but need to be kept cold. We kept a wine cooler topped up with ice cubes to put teething toys in to be kept cold. Be careful though not to get them to cold or they can burn skin!

In the night, a dose of childrens Nurofen seems to work better than Calpol. (Always check with your doctor first before using anything on your child!) Nurofen is an anti-inflamatory and analgaesic so it will help reduce swelling as well.

There is no easy way to deal with teething apart from care and attention and a steady supply of cold crunchy stuff!
