Advantages: Easy way to give medication, accurate measurments easy to use

Disadvantages: Hard to clean wouldn;t work on a baby that doesn't use dummies

My daughter was always very difficult to give medication to when she was 9 months old she developed hand, foot and mouth and needed several lots of medication, which she was having none of! Very time we got the spoon or medicine syringe into her month her hands came up and knocked it everywhere followed by her screaming her head off until she was physically sick.

I went to a mother and baby group in tears from tiredness and stress one day and one of the other mums said why don't you get a dummy with a pocket on the back that you can fill with medication and she will just suck it out. I said what a fantastic idea you should invent one. She told me there was no need they have been invented and they sell them in our local boots for just under a fiver.

The could have charged whatever they liked at that point and I would have paid it. Therefore, I left mid group to get this dummy thing. She was right it was just as she had explained. There was a dummy with a whole in the end and a bubble made from plastic at the back, which popped open and popped closed again very easily and was very secure. I bought on and jogged off home to try it.

There is a handy measure on the plastic pocket, which measures from a ml to 3.5 ml, which was perfect. I guess if you needed to give a larger dose, you could refill it. I filled the pocket with 2 ml of medicine and popped it into my daughters mouth then cuddled her in. First, she coughed a bit so I took it out her mouth and rubbed her back until she calmed down. I think the shock of liquid coming out surprised her a little. Second attempted was much better she sucked on the smoother for about 2 minutes and all the medication was gone I then took it out and popped in her normal dummy as I didn't really want her sucking in air.

I felt very relax and confident that she had received the correct dose without any discomfort or distress. I found the dummy easy to use although it was a bit of a pain to clean I rinsed it out and popped it into the steamer but traces of medicine seems to linger. I found the best solution for this was to fill the pocket with very hot water and the press the teat until it came out then sterilise.

I also used this dummy on some occasions when my daughter was ill and refusing to drink by filling it with water and letting her suckle on it until it was empty.

Overall, this is a fantastic idea and a great product but it is a pain to clean and it only works as long as you want to give a dummy. Children who do not have dummies would probably have difficulties with this devise.

Summary: A handy dummy for babies that hate medicine
