Mr Bump Bruise Soother
Advantages: cools and soothes, can be used warm, better value for money than disposable cool packs.
Disadvantages: annoying to wash after every use.
I am one of these people who loves my freebies :). So on getting through an email from one of the freebie companies I'm with this Mr Bump soother appeared as one of the freebies - the only catch was you had to have a Child Trust Fund account for your child and to review it through Nestegg.co.uk. The survey took me a few minutes to complete and once I was done they asked what bruise soother I'd like to receive in the post. I chose the Mr Bump one on account of my son really liking 'Bump' (as he calls him.) Also he was getting to that age where he was having a few accidents per week.
It took a while to get to me but when it arrived I was quite surprised to read on the packaging that you shouldn't freeze the product, but keep it in the fridge. So in the fridge it went. I can only assume that if it were to be put in the freezer that it would stick to the skin and pull off a layer, so it makes sense to store in the fridge.
Once it's out the fridge it's cool enough to be soothing but not freezing cold, so perfect for bumps. The soother itself comes in the shape of Mr Bump, with a blue gel inside that goes cold. I found it was chunky enough for my son to grab and hold onto his head.
I've used this bruise soother myself for general headaches and swellings - and it's been great. Every time my son bumps his head he'll run to the fridge and say 'BUMP! BUMP!' so I think he's well trained ;). The best part about the soother is that it's reusable, so can be used time and again for all those bumps and bruises. Aswell as being 'served up cold' Mr Bump can be heated up and can be applied to pulled muscles - just put in a bowl of hot water (not boiling) in order to heat up Mr Bump. After every use you should clean the soother in warm soapy water. We've had our soother for over a year and it's been in good shape in that time - no leaks, cuts or other disasters so I'd recommend this for parents with toddlers and children.
Although I didn't buy my soother and got it as a freebie it is around £4.95 on Amazon.co.uk - which is pretty decent for a resuable soother as the one use soothers are usually around this price!
