I bought nurofen for children when my daughter had a bad cold, I had tried her with calpol but she needed something a little stronger to relieve the symptoms. The lady at the chemist advised me to try nurofen for children and told me that it is a good medicine to get rid of flu symptoms.

So I bought a pack from my local chemist, it retailed at £2.59 for 8 5ml sachets and there were a choice of flavours so I chose orange as my daughter is not too keen on strawberry.

When I got it home I read the instructions before I used it and found it was really simple to use.

Before you open the sachets, you need to massage it first to ensure the liquid is mixed together, then pour out onto the spoon provided. And can be repeated 3 times in 24 hours, so I gave it to my daughter in the morning then after lunch and again just before her bedtime.

The pack does say that it is for short term use only and to seek medical advise if symptoms persist for more than 3 days but I didn't need to as my daughter felt relief the next day and was better within the 3 days.

Nurofen for children gives relieve for:

Reduces temperature

It is for children 3 months and over and not to be taken if:

The child weigh's less than 5kg
Have ever had a stomach ulcer
Are allergic to aspirin or other painkillers
Suffer from heart or kidney problems
Have a fructose intolerance

The pack also says that adults can take this so long as you are not pregnant or suffer from any of the above. And when I had a cold I did try this as I had run out of paracetomol and I have to say the taste wasn't too bad at all, it certainly tasted of orange although a little sweet for me but then it is designed for children!! I did find it had a bit of a sharp aftertaste but nothing that would make me hate it, and my daughter loved the taste and looked forward to having the medicine. So a thumbs up from me.

6-12 months 2.5ml 3-4 times in 24 hours

1-3 years 5ml 3 times in 24 hours

4-6 years 7.5ml 3 times in 24 hours

7-9 years 10ml 3 times in 24 hours


I would certainly recommend this product to any parent. I always ensure I have a pack in my cupboard this time of year as you never know when it will be needed and I like to nip colds in the bud!!
