Advantages: Convenient when out
Disadvantages: More expensive
This is a review of the packs of single-dose sachets of Nurofen - there are plenty of reviews on here of Nurofen for Children itself.
--- The packaging ---
You get a cardboard box containing 16 sachets, each containing 5ml of Nurofen for Children. They include a plastic measuring spoon, for measuring 2.5ml or 5ml.
You also get an advice leaflet, since this is medicine.
The sachets measure 11cm by 5cm. They are made of foil covered with paper and are strong. I've always got one floating about in my handbag and I've never had one split yet.
The sachets have all the dosage information on the back so you don't need to carry the box around.
--- The contents ---
It is Nurofen for Children, an anti-inflamatory pain-relieving medicine for children from 3 months to 9 years. It is ibuprofen - 100mg in 5ml. This box contains the orange flavour.
--- Use ---
The point of these sachets is that you can leave one in your bag, and then when you suddenly realise that your child needs medicine while you're out, you've got it.
You are supposed to "massage" the sachet a bit to make sure the medicine is mixed up properly. Then you tear the perforated section off the top of the sachet and squeeze the medicine out through the resulting small hole. I've seen people squeeze it straight onto their child's tongue. My children are not so co-operative, so I also carry one of the orange measuring syringes with me!
If your child is under 12 months then you only need to give a 2.5ml dose, and there are 5ml in the sachet, so you would really need a measuring spoon or syringe. For older children, you can just give them the whole sachet (or two).
If you have only used half a sachet, you are supposed to throw the rest away. There isn't much else you could do if you are out, as they don't reseal.
--- Cost ---
£4.29 for one box of 16 sachets
--- Overview ---
These are very convenient for travel, or to leave one in your bag. The medicine is more expensive than buying it in a bottle, and more wasteful of packaging, so it isn't really for general use at home.
Summary: Very useful!

- 13/04/09 Nurofen is just a brand version of Ibruprofen, a waste of money if you ask me, when cheaper version does the same. |
