Advantages: I really feel it helped my kids when they were feeling low!
Disadvantages: None for me!
My twin toddlers were suffering from terrible colds last week so I took them to the doctors only to be told to keep giving them medicine, keep them warm and keep them well hydrated, so I stocked up on medicines. One medicine my mum purchased for them was Nurofen for Children.
Nurofen for Children comes in few different flavours but the one we bought was Strawberry. Strawberry flavoured Nurofen comes in the silver, orange and red box. Nurofen For Children 2 Months to 9 Years is clearly printed on the front of the box and underneath this is the flavour. Ibuprofen it says as well as 100mg/5ml oral suspension. Fever and Pain with easy dosing syringe.
Nurofen for children claims to provide fast and effective relief by;
Reducing temperature (including fever caused by immunisation)
As well as relieving pain from;
*Teething
*Toothache
*Sore thoats
*Headache
*Minor aches and sprains
The medicine comes with a dosing syringe, it is colour free, sugar free as well as being strawberry flavoured.
Directions for use are provided on the back of the box, all depending on age of course. Safety advice is also provided as well as an advice and safety leaflet within the box.
The medicine comes in the standard dark brown coloured 100ml bottle with the child lock safety cap. It is decorated in the same colour theme as the box it comes in so no mistaking the medicine amongst others on your medication shelves.
The top of the bottle is blocked off by a plastic hole, this hole is where you place your syringe which has all the correct markings on it enabling you to safely suck up the required dose of medicine to give to your child. From personal experience I find children take medicines easier off a syringe - no not because you can just squirt it down your throat lol but because they don't have time to think about taking the medicine whilst looking at it on a spoon as it flies towards them. It is a different and interesting way to take medicine so I personally feel there is less chance that they will turn their noses up at it.
The medicine has a subtle yet sweet strawberry scent, offensive to nobody and would make for easy consumption for any child without scaring them off medicines for life. It is a thick, syrupy yet clear liquid yet has no problems in being squirted out of the syringe, although if it does manage to drip anywhere it does become quite sticky.
I gave this to my boys when they were suffering from a high temperature, a runny nose and aches - although they can't talk I could see they were sufferingly slightly from achy limbs and awkward pains that wasn't leaving them feeling 100%. Within an impressive space of time I could hear them breathing a little easier through their noses despite them still being quite bunged up. They seemed to be able to move about freely without the little moans and annoyed frowns as well as their temperature gradually lowering.
Without this medicine they were very grouchy, were thick in the nose and were struggling to breathe properly and lacked energy to get up off the sofa. This medicine I feel perked them up a little and eased their aches and pains as well as clearing their nose slightly to allow for easier breathing. I'm not claiming it worked miracles but it definitely helped them out in their rough couple of days until the cold finally disapeared into thin air!
The syringe I felt was a brilliant idea, they never seem to want to take medicine off a spoon and always run away. I don't want to scare them off chasing them around a room to force a spoonful of medicine down their throats. They were interested in the syringe and after watching each other have a dose of medicine from it they were more than willing to have some more the next time they were due some.
Summary: A sweet smelling medicine that helped my kids feel better in their low days!

- 07/09/09 Nurofen and Calpol are good store cupboard staples for kids. I had to persuade my daughter to take paracetamol tablets when she was 12 as she much preferred Calpol! |
