Advantages: Works well, bottle is mess free
Disadvantages: Pricey compared to stores own products
I like to have a bottle of an ibuprofen medicine in the cupboard so that if my daughter is in quite a lot of pain and Calpol isn't quite enough to take the edge off, I can give her some and it usually takes her pain away.
--- Information ---
This Nurofen for children is available in two flavours, strawberry and orange.
Children between the ages of 3 months and 9 years can take this, with the following different dosages:
3 to 6months - 2.5ml up to 3 times a day
6 to 12months - 2.5ml up to 4 times a day
1 to 4years - 5ml up to 3 times a day
4 to 7years - 7.5ml up to 3 times a day
7 years and above - 10ml up to 3 times a day
Leaving 4 hours between each dose.
The Nurofen can be bought in two different size bottles, 100ml and 200ml. They are widely available from chemists and supermarkets. A 100ml bottle can set you back anything from £3 upwards.
--- Nurofen ---
The box for this Nurofen for children is the same type of packaging it has for all it's products, silver in colour and featuring the red, orange and yellow target. The box contains all the normal information you would find on a product of this type, dosage information and warnings. Inside the box is an information leaflet, the child proof bottle and a syringe for administering the medicine.
The bottle is a lot different to the Calpol type bottles. After opening the lid of this one you will find a sort of plastic seal on top of the bottle, it has a small hole suitable for the syringe. The syringe needs to be pushed in until it is secured in place with a click. The bottle then needs to be tipped up and the required amount of medicine pulled out into the syringe. It makes you feel like you should be working in a hospital! I must admit, the bottle put me off using this at first but the more I got used to it, the more I realised it was mess free and wasn't as awkward as I first thought.
We bought the strawberry flavour, as I thought my daughter would be more likely to take this without any trouble as she likes strawberry flavoured Calpol. It seems she does like this too, and will take it without putting up a fight.
We bought this to use along side Calpol (or stores own paracetamol suspension) when my daughter is in a lot of pain. It worked well, and I would alternate between Calpol and Nurofen and she seemed pain free, the only problem with taking them together is keeping track of what has been taken and when so I always right it down just to be on the safe side.
We've also used the Nurofen as primary pain relief when we've had no Calpol in the house. It works just as well as Calpol and relieved mild pains within 30 minutes, and this would last for about 3 and a half hours, so it was never long before she could take another dose.
I'd definitely recommend this Nurofen, although I've found stores own ibuprofen work just as well as this, if you can find it on offer, pick it up! It relieves my daughter of most of her pains, and if it doesn't get rid of them completely you can always use a paracetamol based medicine along side it.
Summary: Target that pain!
