Advantages: Amazing price, it works! gentle.
Disadvantages: None
My eczema story is an odd one, I have always had sensitive skin but last year around October time it turned into Eczema, annoying and where did it come from?? So obviously I have tried lots of lotions and potions and found one brand I trust' Oilatum.
I use the (adult) bath emmolient (as reviewed) and I was just browsing in Boots the other morning and noticed this cream at £2.24 a tube! The bath emollient costs between £9 and £13 a go so a product by them for £2 was too good to miss!
I usually use the bath stuff once or twice a week and then inbetween if my skin gets really bad I use a prescribed steroid cream on the itchy dry bits! I thought this would be kinder to my skin especially as its the childrens version.
The cream is in a 40ml tube inside a white cardboard box with the typical blue Oilatum branding (as seen above) It does look quite clinical but the little scribbly drawing of people livens it up for kids I suppose.
The lid twists off easily and then you can squeeze a small amount onto your finger (or mums finger if you are indeed a child) and rub into problem areas.
A little goes a long way, its a runnier consistency than I expected and spreads out nicely. The runniness also helps the fact that the skin you will be rubbing it into it is irritated, you don't have to rub it hard so therefore irritate it further.
There isn't a lot of info on the box or tube, I am told on both that its for the treatment of eczema and other itchy dry skin conditions. I'm not told how much to use or how often but I presume that means there is no limit.
The cream is 'especially effective if applied immediately after washing to counteract the loss of essential oils from the skin'. So this is what I do.
The cream also relieves itching so keep some in your bag like I have been doing, at work I get hot and my eczema starts to play up. An application of this cools it down and immediately relieves the annoying itch which is just made worse by scratching.
Does it work?
After a week of use my skin is noticeably softer with no dry patches at all! I haven't been using my bath emollient as much either this week as I've just got a new tattoo and didn't want it interfering with it in some way.
So if combined with regular use of bath emollient by Oilatum I'm sure this will give anyone eczema free skin, a cure!
I don't know if £2.24 is full price but I think its a bargain, I hope it isn't reduced as its discontinued. I'll have to stock up I think, the 'use by' date isn't until 2011 so I can buy a few tubes!
Highly recomended.
Summary: I am more or less eczema free!
