“ Brand: Robinsons / Health Aid: Thermometers „
The reviews on DooYoo of the Robinsons Forehead Thermometer seem to be exclusively positive so I do feel the need to share my less than positive experience with it just to provide a balanced view of the item.
I purchased the Robinsons Forehead Thermometer from Home Bargains, for the frankly amazing price of 89p, I've seen them four and five times this price so I think they were just trying to clear some stock out before Christmas as I bought it back in November. My daughter, until recently when she had an operation suffered from fevers caused by ear infections and we wanted a way to easily read her temperature without having to hold a digital thermometer under her arm or ear if she was upset and wriggling.
The premise behind a forehead thermometer is a good one, you place the strip on the child's head, leave it for a few minutes and it will give you an indication of how hot they are via a strip of coloured heat activated squares on the front - much like a bath or room thermometer.
Robinsons Forehead Thermometer comes on a card backing and is supplied with a small lozenge shaped plastic case (it's hard to damage the thermometer - the case is more so you don't lose it, what with it being the size and width of a sticking plaster!) First impressions were good especially for the price.
However I have found that the Robinsons Forehead Thermometer just isn't suitable for us, it's practical in how you use it, and admittedly it is a lot easier to use than a digital thermometer, but it's just no-where near as accurate as we need it to be. If you use it on a slightly different part of the forehead a minute later, then you will get a totally different readout. And if your child is hot and sweaty, the damp sweat seems to skew the results even more. We ended up getting fed up with it, it was not much more effective than just putting the palm of your hand on your child's head to tell if they were hot or not. If we needed to take her to the GP or ring the nurse we were unable to give an accurate account of her temperatures and it wasn't long before we reverted to our extremely reliable digital thermometer, which we picked up from Poundland complete with batteries! So given that it just wasn't useful to us I can only award this 2 stars out of 5 for being a decent idea, well made and at a good price (on offer) which is probably OK for very very occasional use, but for us when you can buy a digital thermometer from the Pound Shop which will give you accurate and consistent temperature readings then the Robinsons Forehead Thermometer with it's flaky readouts just doesn't cut the mustard for us.
Overall I really don't think I can recommend the Robinsons Forehead Thermometer, I don't think that it's a vital piece of kit and I'd say go the digital route, it might be a tad more difficult to take a wiggly child's temperature but at least when you do it will be an accurate one.
the best product i ever bought i relation to my childs health, as we all know we like to be as gentle as we can with our children and normally all thermometers are either inserted into the mouth or ears and can be very uncomfortable for your child and i found also that with especially babies can be painful when your trying to stick the metal stick into your babies mouth and there wriggling around in pain due to been unwell. so wih this product all you need to do is to remove the thermometer strip out of all packaging and place firmly against your child skin on there forehead and wait a few seconds for your accurate results and thats about it, also what i found helpful is that you also recieve a chart letting you know what the correct temperature should be and what is concidered high and low hope this helps
We purchased this thermometer from a local pharmacy. Its designed for kids who don't like sticking things in their mouth (or for that matter anywhere else - let not go there!) this is a much simpler alternative for the forehead. So here is my review for it.
The working of the thermometer is really simple. All you do is take it out of the protective sleeve, put it on the child's head and hold it from the sides. You leave it there for 5 minutes and then take a reading. That's it! The reading is shown as a line on the temperature scale and is very easy to read. We have had ours for nearly a year now and its still working good and strong.
I thought id give this a test, so I put a traditional thermometer in my orifice (my mouth! :- ) and took a reading after 5 minutes, and then did the same with this strip by putting it on my forehead and I was surprised - the results were exactly the same!
So there is no need to worry about getting a false reading from this as its on the external part of the body - it still gives the same result.
No fuss! The easiest way yet to take your baby's temperature. Simple and quick.
