A briliant product to put your mind at rest.

I bought this thermometer 14 months ago when my Daughter was tiny. I decided on this particular make as i completely trust Safety 1st and have bought many of their products. I also believe that when it comes to something as important as taking a young baby's temperature that you need to use a type of product that's safe and trustworthy.
I bought this from Tesco and its was £5.00 or so. In my opinion that's not too much for a digital thermometer.
This product has an easy grip blue handle and a small screen which displays the temperature of the child tested. The temperature screen is very clear and easy to understand. This also has a blunt tip to insert into the baby/child's mouth or under the armpit (whichever is most accessible).
I found it most useful and comfortable when used under my Daughter's armpit as she seemed to become more distresses when i tried to insert it under her arm. To be honest though i think you would receive a more accurate reading from under the tongue so it just depends upon how bad the baby's fever is. In mild cases i tend to take a reading from under her arm.
I would recommend this to any parent as i know how worrying it can be when your child has a temperature and this product can certainly ensure you take the best course of action to get your child feeling well again.

Maybe not perfect for what it was bought for but does what it's supposed to.

If you were to look this product up on the net you'd find the following information:

Perfect for oral, rectal or underarm temperature measurement, this digital thermometer features a flexible tip that is comfortable for a child to accept by any method.

      * Takes an accurate rectal temperature in approximately 40 seconds, oral and underarm in approximately 60 seconds
      * Flexible tip for comfort
      * Over-insertion gauge for proper rectal positioning
      * Comfort-grip handle provides an ergonomic hold for parents
      * Memory feature helps monitor a fever
      * Large digital display is easy to read
      * Visual indicator signals when a temperature reading is complete
      * Protective storage case and one long-life battery included

When leaving hospital after my eldest had suffered a high fever for two days I went straight to the local pharmacy and grabbed a thermometer. I ended up walking out with a handful of them. My young man wasn't quite a year old yet so I wasn't sure which one would work best. I had a strip that you hold onto the forehead, the above mentioned and one you put in the ear.

I first tried the forehead one as my don was asleep and I wanted to know his temp without disturbing him. I had a bit of bother with this one as if I held it down enough to get a reading my son would start to stir. I then moved onto the Safety 1st one. I knew obviously as he was asleep it wasn't going to be used rectally and oral would be a bit tricky as I wouldn't be able to get him to shut his mouth on the thermometer so I opted to place it under this arm. He still stirred at me moving his arm but much less then other options. I know I was able to get a reading but I wasn't overly confident in it so I moved on and used the ear one as well. To be honest I should have used it first because it didn't disturb him in the slightest and I felt more confident in the reading.

I bought the Safety 1st thermometer for about £4. It more used now as my son is older and can take him own temperature. It is much quicker then normal ones but just a bit too fiddly still for young babies.

The write-up states that the thermometer comes with a long-life battery. Ours is now 5 years old and the battery is still going. Every now and again when turning it on the screen will flicker as if the battery is running low but if you give it a shake, turn it off and then back on again it usually gets going without anymore fight.
