Advantages: Emits a soothing decongesting vapour
Disadvantages: Not suitable for babies under 3 months
There is nothing worse than a poorly baby with a blocked nose and a chesty cold, parents can feel powerless at times like that. Once you have administered a product to bring down your babys temperature, you begin to wonder what you can do to help clear congestion and help your baby relax enough to drift off to sleep.
There are various remedies you can try at times like this. However I find that sometimes simple remedies like vapour rubs, can provide just enough relief to enable both you and your poorly baby to get a good nights sleep.

Snuffle Babe is one of the products that we have tried and can recommend, as a lighter yet effective vapour rub for younger children and babies too. Its made by Thorpe Laboratories Ltd and is a well known and trusted product that has been on sale for a long time. Its easy to recognize with its picture of a small half moon, taking a restful sleep in a midnight blue sky,
Adult products such as Vicks Vapour Rub, which is one of the market leaders for this type of product, can be too strong for younger children and are not recommended for babies at all. Snuffle Babe is a product that has been gently formulated with a younger childs needs in mind and so is suitable for children from 3 months onwards.

We have found this to be very useful for younger children and have even used it ourselves when we have run out of an adult vapour rub product. I find that at night time the symptoms of chesty coughs and colds seem to worsen and thats the time when Snuffle Babe really can be just enough to settle a restless and chesty baby off to sleep.
I find that its best to apply some of the vapour rub to a tissue or hankie and then place that in between the baby vest and the baby gro for younger babies. I find that way the product cannot irritate the tender skin of a youngster, but can still be work away to loosen congested airways, with a soft but effective vapour effect. The product can be lightly rubbed on to the chest or back of an older child.

Snuffle Babe contains a mix of 0.5 % Thyme oil, 1.5% Menthol and 2% Eucalyptus oil. It also contains White soft paraffin, as an inactive ingredient.
The mix of the oils within the product can help to ease congestion and work for several hours before the dosage needs repeating.
The product can be bought very cheaply at stores such as Lloyds where it sells for as little as £1.59 for a 24g tub full. The maximum you should expect to pay for Snuffle Babe is more more than £2.49 which even then, thats a little on the high side. I feel that for around the £2 mark, the product is something well worth buying.

Some products are a bit hit and miss with their claims about how they can help with X, Y or Z, but Snuffle Babe does what it should, when it should. Its reliable and easy to apply and can provide a helping hand when your young baby or toddler needs it most. The soothing decongesting vapour it emits is gentle and long lasting and can really be of help.
Sometimes I have found that Snuffle Babe alone is enough when dealing with a chesty baby, but there are times when the product needs to be used along with a product such as Calpol to bring down a temperature. Either way I have always known that I can rely on Snuffle Babe to do what it should and because of that it gets a 5 star rate.

NB: As with any similar Menthol and Eucalyptus oil based product, you should never apply Snuffle Babe directly to a childs face or nostrils. The mix of ingredients causes a burning type sensation when it comes into contact with delicate areas of the skin and face and should always be used with care.
If your child continues to feel unwell and does not quickly improve after using the product, you should always seek medical advice.
Summary: A very good product for easing congestion
