Snuffle Babe Vapour Rub
Advantages: Works, easy to apply, appealing packaging
I will be the first one to admit I never used anything like Vicks or any type of vapour rub but when I used the Vicks Vapour Inhaler I completely changed my mind and decided that the next time any of us had a cold, including our daughter if congestion was that bad, I would get something to help easy the congestion.
Lo and behold my daughter had a cold within a couple of days of my utterings so off I toddled to find something for her as her nose was very congested especially at nighttime when she was snoring like Peppa Pig.
Whilst looking for something relatively like Vicks but safe for children I came across the Snuffle Babe vapour rub. The first thing that caughter my eye was the child like images on the box. A nice moon in a starry blue sky with Snuffle Babe spelt out to me on Build Blocks. It was priced at £2.25 for 24g and I thought it sounded like a good product and just what I was looking for.
Inside the box was the tiniest of plastic jars which looked a little bit medicinal and simplistic. It had a simple label on the front and a screw top lid. This is not a child safety lid so do keep it out of the reach of children as it is very easy to get open.
The instructions said that to use the vapour ointment all you had to do was scoop out a tiny bit of the ointment from the jar and gently rub on to the chest and throat area. It also said if you do not want to apply it directly on to your child then you can also put some on a piece of cloth and tie it to the bed or cot or you can put some on clothing. It is suitable for babies aged 3 months plus and children. It does say on the back that if you wish to apply it to a child younger than 3 months then you need to contact your GP or health visitor first.
When scooping the ointment out I found that it was a creamy colour and a little bit greasy like Vaseline is. I could immediately smell the soothing and clearing scent of eucalyptus, menthol and thyme coming off of it. It wasn't an overly strong smell, nowhere near as strong as Vicks can be but strong enough for a child or baby.
I applied this lightly to my daughter's upper chest and throat just before she went to sleep and I was very pleased when her Peppa Pig snores eased and she was breathing a lot easier and less congestedly. I didn't use it the night after as I didn't want to use it every night whilst she was congested and found that her Peppa Pig snores and sleeping with her mouth wide open came back with a vengence so I do really believe that this helped my daughter and gave her a few hours peace whilst she slept. A decent night's sleep is what any child needs when they have a cold and Snuffle Babe definately helped.
