Snuffle Babe Vapour Rub
Advantages: works realy well
Jessie developed a runny nose just over a week ago now which I initially thought was due to her teething but it soon became clear that she had caught a cold. Her temperature went through the roof, her nose was really running and then became bunged up and her chest was rattly with a cough that kept her awake at night so off to the chemist I went to get cough mixture and calpol but whilst I was there I spotted this for £1.59 so thought I would also give this a try.
This is very similar to others I had used in the past, you apply it to the chest and throat area before bed time to help with there breathing during the night or for a very young baby you could put a bit on to there bedding or on a tissue in there cot.
This only has 4 ingredients in it, which is reassuring,
It has Eucalyptus oil which comes from the leaves of a eucalyptus plant, it has an antibacterial effect on bugs in the chest and throat as well as the lungs helping to kill them off and stop them developing into a chest infection which is the last thing you want in a young child and also acts as a decongestant helping your baby to breath more easily.
It has Menthol, which is also a decongestant
It has Thyme oil, which is a good lung, and bronchial stimulant helping the baby to breath more easily and finally it has White soft paraffin to hold all of this together and turn it into a vapour rub.
You cant use this on babies less than 3 months old which is due to the thyme oil as this can be a very bad irritant to really sensitive skin but you can get around this by using it on items close to the cot rather than on the babies skin and do not apply this to the nose of the child like you would Vicks in an adult as it is dangerous to put menthol that close to a babies nose.
This vapour rub is very easy to apply to Jessie's skin and isn't as strong smelling as I had first expected it to be but it did work very well during the night to help Jessie to breath a lot better which meant she didn't wake up coughing as often during the night so got a better nights sleep and was a lot less grumpy the next morning.
The cream felt really greasy when I applied it to Jessie's skin and I thought I would have to wash it off the next morning but it was all gone by morning and so was the smell from the cream.
I would recommend this to anyone who has a baby with a cold it is fantastic, in a week I have used half a tub so you will only need 1 tub of this each cold so isn't bad value for money either.
Summary: a great relief from blocked nose and bad chest
