Tixylix Baby Syrup
Advantages: relieves dry coughs for 3 months plus
Tixylix is a medicine that sits in our medicine cupboard at all times along with Calpol, karvol and many other products. It has done since the first little cough my eldest son had! I always make sure I have some in my cupboard.
Tixylix baby syrup is especially for dry tickly coughs. There are other forms of tixylix but this is the main one I use for my two boys. Every time I have used it, it has help sooth their discomfort which always seems worse on a night.
Both of my boys have always been quite happy to take the medicine. I have never had any problems with them refusing it unlike my youngest with calpol I still have a going on with trying to get him to take it. The Tixylix is blackcurrant flavoured making it easier for your little one to take. I have to admit to trying it once when we had ran out of cough syrup and I just couldn't sleep for coughing. It does taste very sweet and I can see why young children would happily take it. Amazingly after taking it I did manage to get off to sleep for a good few hours it did sooth it for a while.
The great thing about the Tixylix baby syrup is it is suitable for babies three months plus. I have used it on my youngest when he was just over three months and he was fine on it. I'm not one for dosing them up but it isn't nice to hear them in discomfort when they can't stop coughing. This medicine does state it is suitable up to the age of five years.
Tixylix contains glycerol and does state clearly on the front of the box. It contains 0.75ml in 5mls of the medicine. It also contains liquid maltitol. Even though the taste is sweet it is sugar free and colour free something us parents like to know.
The dosage use is clearly printed on the box and the bottle. For 3 months to one year it is 5ml and for one year to five years it is two 5ml spoonfuls. It does come with the usual white plastic spoon most medicines come with!
The box instantly draws you to it with the nice pink colour fading on it and the picture of a sleeping baby. Something we all want when our little one is struggling to sleep with a nasty cough.
Tixylix is averaged priced for medicine for 100ml it costs about three pounds. You can get slightly cheaper own shop brands cough medicines for young children but when using it for such a small child as three months I always like to go with the well known brand you know it is going to be reliable.
Both of my boys have taken this medicine on quite a few occasions and I have felt it has helped them. They have happily taken it and within a couple of days their cough has cleared. I think this is the calpol of the cough world!
Summary: a firm favourite in our household.
